One thing i have to say, there are two kind of people:
1. The one that thinks about swapping. 2. The one that actually does it and fail. Q: which one do you think will blast us away with a mindblowing car/engine build in the future cuz he has EXPERIENCE? Although my 1982 RX-7 and 2004 RX-8 will never have a piston engines and the idea alone is just hartless...in technical sense it's interesting...not for me...but still interesting....to whom....that is an interesting question itself. Now back to my garage to change my oil for i'm looking out for spring (the season, not the coil). Grtz Dennis. PS Rudolf: Nice promotion for The Netherlands mate...NOT! :-) PPS Mazda vs Saab: Mazda still excists. |

Its being done for reliability.. which the rotory will never be.. theres only a 2 yr warranty in the uk.. you need 8yr like the usa.. :boring: I can buy non runner rx8's for £500 all day long.. :D: just admit that u can't do it right and afraid of learning it. it's ok. we all know how infamous Saab is LOL it's so good and reliable, that's why it's out of business. LOL |
would love to come into a thread and not see the typical shit talkers crap all over the thread. Good lord talk about unnecessary clutter. So long as progress is being made, it keeps the thread interesting, the senseless banter is just taking away from those who are interested in following the progress. Everyone stfu and let this guy do his thing, judge him not of his progress (which 90% of you asshats wouldn't have the cajones to even start) but the final product ....
|
the problem is the final product will be crap and of course, the blame goes to the car, never the guy who made the move.
|
who cares ... you didn't invent / design/ distribute the vehicle ...
the only investment you have in this is your attention. |

rofl, so if 200+k is not reliable, then I guess Civics are garbage.

LOL I own a 1988 Turbo convertible model... I don't have to spend a dime on that car to run it all summer long... I really don't think any RX-8 will still be running in 25years time... If a single one still does, it'll be priceless! |
I was with the bashers when I fist started reading this thread . But the OP seems to be making good progress despite the hammering he is getting .Proving once again that actions speak louder than words .
Although I still agree with what a lot of you are saying , he might actually end up with a decent car out of it all and will have built something unique. Good luck to the OP , you obviously have mechanical savvy and it would seem you might actually get this thing going . How well it goes ......... lets hope you can do better than practically everyone else that has attempted swaps on this car. |
^ Like. +1.

Please post a video once this is up and running, I'm excited for your progress!

No, the RX8 will survive quite well I think as it has already attracted classic status and there are specialists springing up every day to capitalise on the enthusiast market. What kills the Reneses is POOR OWNERS, simple. Sure, they ARE fragile but there are cars out there with well over 100k on the clock, this engine CAN do it if carefully looked after. This is a specialist vehicle and quite possibly, the very last of the the breed. Back on topic, I'm not with the people who are being plain insulting to the OP, I have to give T4XJS credit for not bullshitting and actually getting on with what he said and in pretty impressive time too. In what seems like the same time it took me to to change my fluids and replace the coils, this guy has fabricated virtualy brand new and custom running gear! I believe I said before I therefore respect his skills and acheivements so far. I do not think it's a good idea, I think he's making a special car into some sort of half bread curiosity, but you have to give the guy credit for being able to use actions instead or just talk. Maybe the next project will be a rotary engined SAAB, stranger things have happened............ ;) |

err, I'm NOT SO SURE if anybody is STUPID ENOUGH to do that ... it's like you are asking Richard Gere to do porn ...
in fact after its racing career GTO 3589GT was donated to a high school in texas for use in the auto shop. Innes Ireland and the Ferrari 250 GTO RoadandTrack.com - Road & Track so yes, what is now a $20 million dollar car was used for the kids to learn to set points on and change oil... so yes, its like asking Richard Gere to do porn, NOW, but how about before pretty woman? |

That's a bloody stupid thing to say, If you think of the RX8 with such contempt, why don't you sell yours and get a Honda Accord??
I'll drive the 8 for the next 3-4 summers. I hope this reman will last 45-50k miles with premix and good 10w30 mineral oil... I know what to expect out of that car!... i love driving and taking proper care of it!... i'll leave the Honda Accord to others! :boring: |

SAAB is out of business because GM bullshitted the original company making the cars unreliable, overpriced and carbon copies of the american models.

So I wouldn't be surprised to see a 8 in the future, afterall it's been 10 yrs since it first came out. |

I do plan on keeping my low milage rx8 for 15-20years as i hope it will have increased in value and be a good classic car by then..
Maybe try and have one in each colour.. in original trim, engine etc not modified, converted etc.. :yumyum: :worship: |

-Lawrence you can't please everyone i guess, but there are some people out there that can't do any jobs for themselves or have any idea's of they're own and just blend in eh.. can there be that many rx8 owners out there that just don't look after they're car and let the engine go.........................? Is there any honest and true people out there that look after their own rotory engine, change oil, filters etc regularly, and it has failed.. or would they not speakup.. there has to be 1...? but its nothing to do with me what you do with your cars.. you do what you want and i'll do what i want to improve mine.. ;) |

I think we are all waiting on the day for the values to increase,
low milage, good codition, full mot, tax etc |
Can get one in decent shape for around 10-12K if you know where to look, keeping in mind these all retailed for 29-34K when sold, its slightly depressing
|
You want depressing? Check out the UK market for these cars.
For the equivalent of $3000 - $3500 USD you can have a MOT'd low-ish mileage RX8 GT w/SatNav, a full dealer history and a few months of road tax left on it. Sad. Low spec 192ps examples can be had for between $1500 and 2500 taxed and running. |
