Im doing this swap as we speak, not expensive just the firewall issue and trans adapter. I am going to drop it in next week with welder in hand for custom motor mounts. lots to do still.... im excited!
So i Got my SS manifold tigged up, Turbo looks good in new home! Im just routine coolant hoses, serpentine belt and fabing intake manifold up so i need to hustle if i am to wire this thing to haltech and get it on the road this spring.. probly not but here is hoping.
Looking nice, but you're def. gonna need a blanket and heat wrap and heat shield to keep from cooking the AC lines and firewall/brake lines. Just bend up some sheet aluminum from Home depot using a steel angle and bar, some c clamps and a vise.
You are not wrong, it is incredible how much heat is generated from these turbos and manifolds. Good point, i can wrap the header (to hide my subpar welds) and create a heat shield that makes sense. Got some parts in today from good ol' e-bay for more exhaust work/waste gate. Lots of little details to consider with these builds. Also along with heat management im running hard stainless steel lines to supply the turbo with oil and coolant also the drain. I've learned from the school of hard Knox with my first build to make things last.
