So where is the thread to rag on the inconsistent reliability of the Renesis that so many owners have encountered , or would that upset purists. Don't get me wrong, I think the rotary is a wicked engine, pre Renesis.
You should have plenty of folks agreeing with you.
but you have to be doing a swap to do it.....

Actually, it would be more accurate to say that this thread is where all the people that derail the swap threads with their intended advice and rampant discussion of the pros and cons can discuss them without mutilating the swap thread it originated from.
And yes, the 'gloves are off' so to speak, so things can get rougher in here than normal. It's the 'Swap Lounge' in another perspective.
And the New Member and Troubleshooting sections do a pretty good job of detailing the flaws of the Renesis
Alternatively, feel free to hop onto any piston forum to find loads of people all too happy to join you in bashing it.
I doubt that many of us here actually get 'upset' when people point out the flaws of the Renesis. Our counter point is virtually always that "Yes, we know it has flaws, and we like it anyway". The people that can't understand this attribute it instead to 'getting upset'.

Most of us aren't actually adverse to them. Yes, some people here disagree with the swap of a non-rotary, but it is on a personal feeling.
The majority of us that speak against swaps are actually speaking against people half-assing it, cutting corners, walking in blindly without regard to advise, sticking their head in the sand and saying "lalalala I can't hear you".

I personally admire the design and characteristics of the 8, and think changing it for the sake of more torque or power is ruining it.
I would like more torque & power, but not if it means giving up the things I've learned to love about it.
Namely the smooth high revs, the sound of the engine, ride, handling, and quiet, comfortable cabin.

I think that EVERY swap will have issues in some form or another. The OEM ECU and the other compliant electrical modules expects certain inputs and responses...that different parts won't give. Some can be faked...or partially faked...but it isn't going to be perfectly seamless. Hell the OEM stuff has issues with the CAN signls in the original configuration...look at what happens when the power steering harness wires get a little corroded 
I think that there are choices that have to be made about what you want to work ...
Personally I deleted the A/C, Traction Control, Cruise control and did it on purpose. For my application I don't want them...and it wasn't worth the work to get them to fit or work correctly

my other swap choice would be the vw 2.0 r model with a dsg.. they are getting 400 hp and over 400 lbs of tq with it..

It's a track only Princess basically......the only street driving I do is to go to the gas station on track-days when I run out of gascan gas...and driving it to the shop to work on it
since all the v8 guys are not here tonight bitching.

i have mentioned two. both were chosen for weight and shortness in length, beside what i believe is the correct power the the rx8 platform.

I'd find an appropriately sized jet turbine...
It takes the compact power of the rotary, adds far more durability and lifespan (250,000 hour lifespans are on the short end of the stick, which is 7.5 million miles at 30mph average), adds a huge range of fuels that it can use (including gas, diesel, jet fuel, e85, LPG CNG)...and would be rather cool
Of course the engine wouldn't be cheap, and it would have all sorts of swap challenges. Cooling being the one thing, they do run rather hot. Another is actually figuring out how to get the power from the turbine's shaft to the ground. Jet turbines don't actually change their speed/inertia that easily (compared to a combustion engine), so a direct drive adds likely more problems than it solves.

Built K24 with a k20 head, aftermarket IM, Wiseco pistons, BC H beam rods, BC cams, 600cc injectors, etc. etc. I believe it would retain the rotary like driveability with its 9500RPM (could go to 10,000RPM). It would make 280WHP or so in NA trim but of course I would boost it. And the swap has already been done in an Rx-8 while retaining all factory functions. I will give the renny one more rebuild though before I save for a swap, I want to see what I can do with E85 on it first.
This type of K series build is perfect for this subforum though since the engine is called a frankenstein in the Honda world.

of course with that budget i would select the appropriate tranny and spring for a custom drive shaft,
i would not do a v8 even to there are some parts available (i think its just to tight left to right
the i6 engines are heavy and cumbersome to maneuver, but i went with the 1jz due to cost factors
also maybe the mazda KL v6 weak weak weak but was just looking at a few miatas with this swap
