Icymi, you swap guys keep insulting us rotary guys, what's really funny is how worked up you guys are getting.
And there seems to be some kind of obsession with painful butts.
What's that about?
Oh well, back to making parts on my computer numerical control horizontal lathe.

hmmm I think your a noob yea pretty sure your the king off noobs who post threads on what color hids should they install and how much a shop should charge to put them in LOL or cry about how scary doing an oil change is,,,
but more seriously I have discovered why you guys like the rotary so much because this has pretty much been your argument for the Renny
and that why the rotary is the best motor for the Rx-8

Is there an insult in there somewhere? I have only paid for one engine in the RX-8 and it was a wonderful experience getting to do it myself, no regrets. And what I have spent modding my RX-8 to its current state is still far less than having a average car payment (my daily is paid off as well).

your mistaken sir,,, i have a list of reasons as to why im putting a 1jzgte into my rx-8,,,,, you gus on the other hand cann't provided a simple undisputable reason as to why the Rx-8 Renny is worth a grain of salt other than "the renny is great be cause reasons,, anything else is stupid because i don't know how to do it w/o spending $40g's"

If you want a logical reason from us (which we can provide), then we are going to hold you to the same standard.
"Because a used engine is cheaper than an all new engine" isn't a logically sound statement. Neither is "because I can make it cheap by cutting corners and bribing inspectors."

You keep providing "reasons" but none of them are logically sustainable. It's ok if they aren't, but then don't expect us to have logically sustainable reasons for why we love the Renesis.

cheaper is logically a good reason
reliability is logically a good reason
more power is logically a good reason
originality is a hipster reason
you guys are so far out form the modding world it's unbelievable,,,,
let me try to explain it to you this way
have you heard the term built not bought??
If you pay someone to build your car for you,,, your a vagina,,, simple men build their own cars,,,,
bribing inspectors and going around smog and safety,,,, YOUR AMERICAN YOU GUNNA LET YOUR GOVERNMENT TAKE AWAY YOUR GUNS IF THAT MADE IT LAW!?!?!? seriously law passed they say no more guns your going to hand them over?
so my mentality is fck that it is my vehicle and mine to do with as i wish,, it is illegal to put a a motor older than the model year of the vehicle where I am how with they know you ask? they don't we do it all the time

You have some serious problems of perspective.
I stopped pulling my own transmissions because I got tired of doing them on my back under the car, so yeah, i have a shop do my clutches.
I had a shop's gear specialist do my rear gear change, because I lack the knowledge of the shimming and adjustments of the internals of gear boxes.
I've had a reputable tuner tune my ECU, because I'd rather pay than blow my engine from my inexperience.
Everything else I've done myself. Quite a few people replying in this thread that enjoy the Renesis are the same way.
Please stop making the assumption that none of us understand the challenges faced. We DO know the challenges faced. It's why we are here commenting on it at all.
And yes, I know what is needed to pass a safety inspection for my state, and a number of other states. I happen to AGREE with safety regulations largely. No rules about emissions here, so I don't even have OBD2 in my car, and most of the emissions equipment is gone. It doesn't take bribing anyone to get it to pass. I could legally register the 450hp Grand-Am Speedsource RX-8 race car for street tags. The only 2 inspection items that aren't already met are a horn and an odometer. Easy to add both.
The point I've been making though is that you claim it's going to be cheaper, and your only justification for that claim is that you are willing and able to cut corners. That is an illogical statement.

Oh damn....
I never said it is cheaper to swap in a V8. But as joker said, I too thought about rebuilding my renesis and driving it until the swap market became stronger. But 2500ish in parts bent me over laughing. I considered a used replacement but we all know the reputation of the hand grenade rotary. Hell they are pretty close in size. Since when is clean and reliable in the same category? i once slapped together a 280Z 4.8 swap that was pretty bobo for a local power tour. Drove it 2000 miles in five days. With hundreds of those miles being flat out roll racing. Even sold to a guy who has it currently. I think he is even spraying it. If you are OCD about looks (I can see from that amazing polish on your car that you are) then that's awesome but I'll sacrifice some tidiness and cleanliness for something that will still work great.

I don't know about you swap guys but I enjoy driving my 8 on the road . Looking at it in the gge and creaming myself about how good it will be "one day" just doesn't cut it for me ....
Even allowing for a couple of rebuilds (from pushing boost boundaries ) , I have only had my car off the road for a total of approx. 4 week in over ten years of ownership .

I enjoy doing swaps and in texas the market is strong enough that I can usually turn a profit when I want to move on to the next one. I just sent a deposit on a 2001 Carrera that will get the same treatment. I'll need to save for an LS3 though. In the meantime I will finish my ZR2 swap. I do these things all the time. I daily drive a 1987 Chevy Stepside with a 5.3 and stalled 80E. Gets 20 mpg and better on the freeway. Stockish motor and never given me any trouble. Won't win a car show trophy but it does its job very well. I've turned down offers for 9-10k and I only have 4k into it. I know it would have been much cheaper to put a rotor back in it but when it's finished and I decide to sell it, I'm sure it will have no problem getting a solid number in the black for me.

My Corolla's engine replacement was 62 days by itself, not to mention other failures.
My 99 Miata was off the road for about 19-20 months of the 24 month ownership.
My Protege5 was off the road from failures for about 3 weeks over 3 years.
etc...
I know some people have a different result, by my RX-8 was by far the most reliable car I've ever owned.

I think mine was maybe a week and a half tops, over 5.5 years, 113,000 miles of daily driving in all seasons, all weather, and including driving it in 37 of the US states.

you know what I'm starting to believe the lack of down time because there are soo few components, it's a very easy car to work on especially with everything removed
this was before the swap i was dicking around with the cooling system go it running at 73*c

Guess there are more than a couple people who have better luck with rotors than pistons. But I bet I can count on one hand how many. Y'all are just very special it seems.
