2jz vs ls1 vs 20b vs 26b
planing on doing a swap this winter and trying to decide between the 4 engines, and before i hear a whole bunch of crap im not buying a 26b im building it from scratch.
So what do you guys think on a 04 mazda rx8 for price of full swap to power output of the engine?

first of all, drop the ls1. And also a 26b isn't realistic...
a 2jz-gte will make more hp and tq more reliably for less money(also happens to be my favorite engine ever made) but it becomes a very weird engine to drive with... I've driven an 800hp tt Supra and it was just so bizarre. It spooled quickly in low revs and made impressive power, but then even if you didn't press the gas down more the 80-whatever mm turbo would spool up and this massive surge of power would hit you. Fun as hell but inconsistent to a level I could never really get comfortable with.
Unfortunately, I've never driven a car with a 20b in it but N/A you are making like 400hp(I think?) and then of course with the turbo it'll jump up significantly. The sale point for me is that.. I could never look at myself in the mirror again if I put a piston engine in an RX, do the 20b, you'll be rewarded with quick revs, enough power to spank a corvette and you'll be running a rotary.
I'll be curious to see what you decide on.

My vote goes to a 20b turbo build. Rotary all the way.

The only way to keep a 2jz modified engine on the road is to use an aftermarket traction control system. Expensive stuff.
What's your budget? a 26b will cost more than 30.000$ just to be built.
A 20b in NA form won't go past 350hp and that would be pushing it already. It's true that race teams see power levels in the 420\430hp range but that's for a race engine built with parts that you won't find commonly available.

Actually Ive talked to guy on another form that mad a 26b from scratch i havent asked what cars its in but it is realistic

I think the best thing to do would be to take the 20k you have, divide it equally among the people that have posted, then let us each kick you in the nuts. It will be cheaper and less painful than doing any of the swaps you're thinking of with the knowledge you've expressed so far of said swaps.

I think the thing to take away from this thread is that most people who want to do radical swaps/improvements fail or encounter major challenges. It doesn't mean you have to be one of them, but be aware that like most things there is a learning curve. Your chances are better if you are starting from with past experiences.
I think it makes sense to decide what you really want to do this for? Is it because love working on cars, mechanical challenges, and potential innovation? Or is it because you want a fast car? If it's the later there might be better ways to achieve your goal. There are a ton of really fast cars out there. 350-400hp in a lighter vehicle is a very fast car, let alone where you may be leaning. If you enjoy driving, maybe you'd find it more pleasurable to spend some of that money towards doing stuff on the track which lets you truly enjoy a car instead of having brief moments of enjoyment.
