It was the whole assembly, out of the box into the car kind of thing.

I wasn't getting enough torque on the union nut. I wound up repurposing a broom handle for a cheater bar. No more weird noises from the pump.

It does seem like it's idling a little rough but it's been so long since I've driven it for any length of time, it could just be me

More drag on the engine, so that makes sense. A/C should also make it idle rougher. Maybe make a video? How rough is rough? Is it unstable, or idling low or..?
Could be as simple as a vacuum leak.

im trying to diagnose similar issues myself i think its vacuum related.. my pump makes loud motor whine on startup and has something running after i shut it off that sounds like a fan pump near the charcoal canister and has a PSH when it stops after 20-30 seconds

Did you get the intake fixed? If that Maf isn’t seated correctly or the Oring is borked that will cause poor idle.
Oh and what about the Maf screens?
They should be installed and seated correctly.

Great to see you’re making progress. Good job.

When I say rough I mean the car vibrates harder then the rpms drop. It actually died on me at a stop light .. twice. It fired right up both times.. I drove home and haven't been back out.

@ Loki- I'll see what I can do about making a video

As for the intake, no that has not been replaced yet... I'm going to try to fix the maf sensor here in a bit.. with some jb weld and or gorilla glue

JB Weld works, I did one on mine. If you have a drill it helps to drill a little pilot hole.
If not be gentle and tighten it just enough to seal.

Did you clean the MAF sensor with MAF cleaner?
If you can see it try spraying the ESS.
It can be removed for cleaning but that can open up a whole nother can of worms with the bolt being frozen.

Allso do the 20 brake pedal stomp to reset the NVRAM.

Hello, sorry for the delay. My living situation has become complicated, to say the least. Yes the maf sensor was cleaned with maf sensor cleaner. The car has been running, albeit a little rough. But now I am having headlight issues. Pretty much all of them will turn on but then they flicker and go out. I've looked into it a little and it sounds like this guy's problem-

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tro...roblem-219522/

Except now all of my headlights don't work in some form or fashion. I called my local Mazda dealership and the part they say i need is $1200..
If anyone has some insight it would be appreciated..

Can you be more specific? Which part of the headlight or all of them? What part did the dealer say they need?
Do you have DRLs?

I don't have DRLS
It's both big bulbs and one of the small bulbs. The other small one is out completely and has been for a while.

They all come on when I start the car, except the one, but will start to flicker and then go out.

And It looked like one has changed color.. which sounds kind of crazy I know

The dealership didn't say what part they needed. I assume it's the whole headlight assembly.

Could I just buy some different aftermarket lights to put on it,? The price tag the dealer quoted me was just insane

I've called 2 different dealers today and they just want to have me come in for a "diagnostic" appointment.

I would guess its the HID ballasts that you need, not the actual headlight. But I'm not sure how to troubleshoot the ballasts and it's kind of weird that both would be dying independently but at the same time?

The one that's been out for a while is probably just a burnt bulb.

Do the high beams work at all? Is it possible they're somehow miswired? Because your HIDs shouldn't come on until night anyway, so is that picture with low beams on or what?.

That pic was with the headlights switched fully on. I had tried to post a second pic when the light went out on the passenger side. Apparently that one didn't get posted.

The driver side goes out shortly after the passenger side.

High beams work great.

The wiring is stock I've never messed with it.

Problem us it's not the headlights themselves, it's the electrical supply. The headlights are just plastic.

I'm pretty sure it's the HID ballasts, either themselves faulty or thr grounding points or supply to them. You kthow long tube fluorescent lights in stores and commercial spaces sometimes flicker or light unevenly? Same thing. And it will be random depending on temperature and other stuff.

Wouldn't new headlights have their own ballast?

I was out the other day, and it suddenly started surging at idle, and then it died on me.. twice. It started right up both times. Did I mess with something while screwing with the lights? Or is it just a coincidence?
