Time to say hello!

Been snooping around here for quite awhile.
First time posting, since I finally got an rx 8 about a month ago. Got an 05 MT pearl white, 73k miles on body, sadly just had the engine replaced with a reman. in janurary, so the engine has 3k miles or so.

Since I can't post in the technical section... I'll ask here. After looking through quite a few threads and finding some what similar questions, never really found the same one.

Have had this happen 3 times so far, Starting from a stop and going in first gear at about 4k rpm's, it seems the car starts bogging down, I would call it I guess. When accelerating, the car appears to be losing power off and on. Happens randomly it seems. No CEL lights pop on, or any other lights at that, all three times has happened at normal operating temps, Been keeping a close eye on the oil of course. Had the ignition coils and spark plugs changed and a new clutch tossed in on feburary 1st also. If anyone has any insight as to a possible problem, I would appreciate it. If need more specifics please ask, don't know what all to include.
Thanks ^^

Welcome,
Do you have a catalytic converter still?
If so, I would check it out.
Should throw a CEL, but I found out it took about 400 miles for mine to come back on after I cleared it the first time.
Wires with plugs & coils too, yes?

Welcome to the rotary club!

Anyway, mine used to do that when its so hot (100 degrees +), then i did a tune-up (change the coils, plugs, and wires), and it did improve a little bit i'll say, so far so good. I am thinking about de-carbon my engine too...

Post pics of your rx8 will ya...

Not sure on wires, they aren't original, I'll try to check them this monday, next day off. Any easy way to see if I still got a cat? Sure I do cuz it just went to a Mazda dealer 4 months. I just got new plugs but paperwork showed that he had plugs and coils replaced. So doubt they are in bad shape yet... As for pictures, I'll try to post some tomorrow. And thank for the welcome.

Well dunno if anyone else has had any ideas and I've been fairly busy. Checked plugs, wires, cleaned Maf and throttle body which were pretty clean. I haven't had the issue since the post date but I don't think its been resolved either though. I'm sure its just looming around.

I have not had a chance to check it over. Not sure if it has a mid or catalic converter. Assume the latter since its been to the dealer a few months ago. Been moving do javent been on here much, sorry bout that. I'll work on checking my mid/ or cc. And as of now, still haven't had that issue with it "surging" if you will. Been almosta month and a half since it last happened. Cars given me a few rough starts though. Couldn't get it to turn over, bit that's probably in the need of a new battery. Otherwise it runs like a beast. Need to get a tank of gas all highway to see my mpg. In town and some highway is around 16 mpg normally. Which isn't to bad from what I've read.

Intermittent power loss is most commonly coils, plugs and wires.

For now I would do the simple things. Clean the CAS, MAF and make sure the screens in the intake box are still intact.

It is possible that the cat is causing odd issues as well. Sometimes the cat can get damaged on engine failure and the dealer may or may not notice it. I would take it back into the Mazda dealer, often cat replacement will be covered.
