Slow taking off

In the mornings when I first take off with the engine only running for about 3mins recently I have been experiencing terrible hesitation until the temp hand gets to normal. Or if my 8 has been sitting until the engine cools completely off the car hesitates in first and second gear afterwards it runs fine. Does anyone have any suggestions as to the problem

Care to be more specific? What are you doing with the throttle, what RPM, mileage on your ignition, do you have any smoke on startup, manual or automatic, mileage on the engine, etc...

My 8 is an 05 83k miles, no smoke ever on start up, 6sp. I know very little about the history of the car, I bought it last December. Ran grt up until about a month ago. I put lucus fuel injection cleaner in it a couple days ago but I only drive less than 10miles a day this morning it was better was wonder if I should change the fuel filter

Let it warm up before you romp on it.

Fuel filter clogs in an RX-8 are insanely rare.

It is far more likely that you just are neglecting proper maintenance on the engine, even if it's because you just didn't know.

There are a number of things that this could be, but a few basics that you need to address (simply because you don't know the history and thus age) are:
- Coils, plugs, and wires
- Coolant
- test the coolant temp sensor
- thermostat
- wiring grounds, including the battery posts
- Clean the MAF and ESS, reset the ESS profile afterwards
- test the front O2 sensor and replace if bad
- test for vacuum leaks

You missed several of the points, like RPM and throttle though... there is a specific reason I'm asking that.

@ RIWWP Thank you so much you're giving me a lot of insight, at first take off I rarely press the gas more than it takes to move it I never gun my car. I just found out it needs to reach 6k rpms daily so I've started to let it rev higher between shift changes which seems to help. The throttle I don't know much about. coolant is fine. I'm confused about the wiring grounds though.

My question is: What RPM is it happening at, and how much throttle (gas pedal, accelerator pedal, etc...) are you giving it when it happens?

I'm not sure how else to re-word that.

The reference to wiring grounds is that numerous problems can show up entirely because electrical grounding points have been corroded, increasing the resistance of the circuit at that point. If it's an engine block ground for example, it can start screwing with your ignition system, which grounds itself to the engine block. That was mentioned more as a preventative maintenance item, rather than a suggestion of your current issue.

Ok gotcha, probably about 2-3k rpms, I have to press the gas almost all the way. I was sitting below a steep hill a few days ago for a few hrs when I went to start up the hill it wouldn't do it. It got about half way up and would've shut down if I didn't press the clutch and let it roll back down after 3 tries it was warmed up and went right up

Ok, that sounds like a severe AFR problem. Vacuum leak, O2 sensor failure, MAF fouled, or coolant temp sensor are the 4 easy culprits. All of them can throw off the AFRs too much, and based on other circumstances could also be based on temp buildup (whether engine bay, exhaust temp, MAF temp, or coolant temp, respectively)
