S2000 out, RX8 in!

Hi there from a new member. I sold my S2k last year and have been looking for a fun car replacement since. Why did I sell the s2k? Well that car is about as close to driving nirvana that I have every achieved. The real reason was simply because it was a 2 seat convertible, and I have a young family. I never had time to use the car.

So, since then I have been on the hunt for a great handling street/track day car with four seats. I have looked at and/or considered the following:

E46 M3
E90 M3
996 911
135i
s550 mustang gt

All of those cars have issues but mostly German cost especially 911 engines and/ or crashing it on the track. Plus I drove all of these cars, but they don’t quite offer that s2k feel or even close to it.

Then on the way to work last week I was behind an rx8. I almost forgot about this car because to be honest, I am not a fan of the styling. They look ok but don’t like the bubble rear glass and fenders. However, looks are not that important to me. What is, is the feel from the drivers seat.

So yesterday I drove a 2005 with 33k on it. The car had coilovers but otherwise looked stock. It is too beat up for me but I was testing the model, not that car. 10 minutes behind the wheel and I was sold. If there is the four seat spiritual equivalent to a s2k it IS the rx8. Loved it. The handling, the engine, everything..... I can’t wait to take it to the track and mix it up with cars double the power. Plus it has lot of room inside but it still feels like a smaller car. I can see why more people want more power, but the engine is fun. Very much like the f20c except the renesis pulls harder on the bottom, and has no torque dip. However it also does not have the 6-9k surge of the f20c. But the rotary does pull nicely. No vibration and it felt like it would never stop revving.

i have had many fun and track cars, so I am pretty good looking for a used car. However I am sure I will have lots of rotary questions and appreciate any help this group can provide.

thanks!
