RX-8 Or S2000?

I'm looking for an opinion on which is more important- a convertible top or a rotary engine.

Please assume:

Money is not an object.
I want both equally.
I don't need a back seat.
The car will be a DD.

I have always been a fan of the Rotory engine but I also want a convertible. my current car is a 2006 Civic Si but I don't like it any more. I'm heavily right side up on the Si.

The RX-8 weighs about 150 lbs more, but the S2000 is less practical for a DD.

id suggest driving both to see what u like. I couldnt stand the feeling when i test drove a s2000 it felt to numb to me in spots. the mpg would probably be better

the 8 feels better to me but requires a little more attention. the 4 seats are surprisingly useful for the office though i dont like other people in my car.

Don't link a search. They expire after a short time, so it's an invalid link.

that's an awesome solution. if your goal becomes having to ultimately sell a car, it becomes much easier than picking one to buy.

Get the S2000, there are already too many new ******* (pun intended) out there!

Yeah man, easy fix. Go drive them, pic the one you like the best, simple as that. If ur a lil fella the S2000 is the car for you (just because ur fixated on a covertible). If in between, then only some test runs will tell you.

If you are a big boy, try cramping into the s2000 then imagine a big friend next to you. The s2000 is a weekend car, I like it, but like you said not a practical DD. I know 3 people that own em and they are all little people.

TBH, the only way to figure it out is to drive them both. Then you will know which to pick.

did you post this in the s2k forums too? are you part of the civic forums too?...anyways welcome to OUR forums, this is always an on going debate about people not knowin what they want, some of us will say get an 8, some will say get the s2k...personally i like em both, but the 8 felt more like MY type of car, as soon as i got it, it greeted me with comfort and 9k rpms...the s2k felt good too but not as good

I have posted extensively about this. I used to own an 04 AP2. Looked into an RX8 as well before I purchased it. Totaled it in late June and I'm about to pick up my RX8 in a few days...

What's the cheap alternative then? Must offer the same or more, (240hp, convertible, rwd, reliability)

Ok. Since you're asking us to help you choose between two completely unrelated things (Wankel vs. Convertable) here's a decision matrix:

1) Are you bald?

Yes: Get the convertable
No: Continue to Question 2

2) Do you live someplace where it hasn't rained in 3 years?

Yes: Get the convertable
No: Continue to Question 3

3) Do you not know what snow looks like and put on a turtleneck when the thermostat drops to 60 degrees?

Yes: Get the convertable
No: Continue to Question 4

4) Do you enjoy asking people you don't know questions that only you can answer?

Yes: Get the convertable
No: Continue to Question 5

5) Does you get offended when your place of worship describes heaven without mentioning VTEC?

Yes: Get the convertable
No: Shave your head. Return to Question 1

Seriously the s2000 and 8 are two very good cars that appeal to completely different subsets of people. If I was that in love with convertables I'd get a RX-8 to drive daily and on the track and get something like old Merc. 560SL to cruise around town in when the mood fits.

But that's just me. You're the only one who actually matters in this decision.
