I am a newbie to RX8 and this forum. Please don’t laugh. I am doing an endurance race. The person who helped rebuild the engine recommended 20w 50 oil. Seems odd to me. I want the engine to last more than a few races. Any thoughts?

 

That's pretty common for old time rotary knowledge.

More important really is what your oil pressure is.

 

20w-50. 100% agree.

Many engines, not just rotaries, can benefit from a good oil in this viscosity.
