Mystery Stalling Issue

2005 Rx8 auto. The car has been running like a top until this past Wednesday while turning into a parking lot from traffic the engine suddenly stalled/ Died. I was able to get the car to crank again and drove it approximately 5 miles before the same thing, while slowing down the engine stalled again. The engine also seemed to be sluggish at low Rpms and seemed to have reduced power. All fluids were checked that morning and topped off (oil) and the car has been running great. The only additional information to add is that this occurred at night and when checking under the hood I could bump the top of the alternator and the Rpms would jump about 200 rpms at idle. but not stay there. I checked the voltage with the engine running and it was like 13.3 volts. cleaned the terminals and checked it again and it read 14.1 but still seemed to be running like crap. At no time did I ever get a CEL.

I would check your coils and fuel pressure. Either a coil is going bad or your fuel pump could have taken a ****.

I am pretty sure someone else will chime in as well.

Angry Low RPM's at idle

If you have had your battery replaced or have disconnected it for any reason you must reset the idle. You must reset the computer for correct idle.

1.) With engine running hold gas pedal at idle speed for 20 minutes. Then
2.) With A/C on, again hold gas pedal at idle speed for additional 15 minutes.

That's it.

My car did the same thing pulling into a parking lot, but unfortunately for me it would NOT restart. I was in the entrance to the parking lot holding up traffic. Was lucky to be able to coast into at least the entrance or I would have been hit :wall bash:
Car would threaten to stall at every light and stop sign. Had to hold gas pedal so it would not stall. Found this procedure on YouTube (god bless the guy that posted it ). He states that most Mazda's have the same problem and that even Mazda mechanics don't know of this procedure.

After I did this car idled perfectly. NOW i have other problems but…..it's an RX8
Car's again at the Mazda dealership. Will start but will not stay started, only run for a very few minutes before cutting out.

Whenever I have issues, I always check the ignition system, and that usually is the root of my issues. It still amazes me how important it is to have good coils/wires/plugs

Hi I had a similar issue, I went out for a good 60 mile run, then when I got to a junction and slowed the engine stalled. Every time I came to a stop the revs would drop and the car would stall.

I looked at the throttle body, vacuum hose etc, all were fine.

I cleaned the MAF and the Throttle mouth, still no change.

I checked the battery and alternator function all ok.

Clenaed plugs, checked HT connections

Still no change!

OBD2 the car throughout no errors, no CEL etc.

So finally I disconnected the battery left it for 20 mins, I then idled the car for 20 mins with aircon on full pelt for the last 10 minutes

Now runs sweet as a nut again!!!! had a great run to Brighton and back!!!!!
