Update video dont mind the babling the whole exhaust part was pointless but you can see minor red spots on the other side of the cat ( opposite of o2 sensor)

Warning: it will be machine gun levels of loud if you run with an open header.
Just posted an update video any comments ?

So with the video its really hard to tell what part the noise is coming from, the recording can't convey that. If you're hearing it through the exhaust pipe, I'd be back to compression loss. You could have 1 blown apex seal which would cause this and the poor warm start.

Can you do this: find a piece of wood, apply one end to your ear and the other end to various parts of the engine. When you touch the part that is actually producing the sound, you will know. Old but useful trick. If it's most audible through the exhaust though, that would point to an internal problem.

Can you get it to a comp test? I don't normally recommend it, but even a regular comp tester should pick up on seals so nlown that you can hear it.

If you start it it makes the Steering sensor reset a whole lot easier 😎

You really.need to findwhat is causing that noise....😊

I can try to get her to school and use one of their crappy compression testers but its not gunna give me a clear reading since it doesnt tell me each face it kinda just spurts up and down from what i hear its just not accurate but itl give you a margin if you watch the spurts and mark its highest and lowest points for 3 cycles each chamber or am i mistaken

And i was gunna use a long screw driver but i dont have one long enough to reach like deep in there bouta just go to the park get a branch off a tree haha

You just have to restart it after you do the reset and it is good. Saves strong arming it with the car off 😁

Just disconnecting the battery and holding down the brake pedal for 30 sec or so does the reset...except the ESS reset that you already.have done

I wanna do a fuel pressure test cause it sounds like its not getting enough fuel on start up and i feel like that noise could be coming from the injectors maybe a clog maybe a leak bouta rub the trunk see if a genie pops up with some information for me

Now you're making stuff up again. Doesn't Lincoln Tech teach you how to tech?

They teach the basics of how to do stuff and my teacher himself said it sounds its struggling to push fuel or some sort of leak causing the air fuel mixture to be off but not compression loss I mean then again they themselves admit to not knowing about rotary so idk but my buddy who owns an rx7 fd took a look today said it looks and sounds ready but maybe since the guy before had plus and i put premium the mix might be offing the delivery plus the clogged cat may be why the idle jumps but the noise could be a cracked down pipe so im gunna drop the cat and do some of my own random testing

I took a regular sized screw driver and tried to listen to a few parts up top and it sounds like its not by the top but just under the intake around vdi or behind the oil fill cap somewhere it gets louder i need a longer driver so i can see if it's anything lower than im gunna check the down pipe too for any cracks or abnormalities and i still need to seafoam her

What in the actual hell is this train wreck of a thread.

RxEric:
So far almost every damn person has said to get a REAL rotary compression test done and for some reason that's just not clicking with you. Just get the test done. You're in denial. If you keep going and it is a compression issue you'll spend more trying to fix things that aren't broken than getting anywhere.

Everyone else:
Why, oh why, do you keep humoring him? You're just giving him and everyone else who stumbles across this thread trying to troubleshoot the same issues a list of things they'll waste time and money on before getting the compression test done. Even if by some miracle it's not a compression issue, having the numbers can't hurt him. He's already (it looks like) spent more on attempted repairs than he would have on the test itself. Hell, if he looked around and asked nicely there might even be someone in his area that could do it for him.

This is one of those threads that, like the mentioned trainwreck, I just can't look away from. Some part of me wants to see how far this gets before he finally does a compression test, and the completely random choice of possible solutions is entertaining.

But seriously Eric, get a damn comp test. You've already spent more than the cost of one in your own time pretending the problem is something else. Time to face the music man.

Project?
Do a Seafoam cleaning, buy a new ESS, MAF, & 02 sensor, BHR midpipe, do an S2 fuel pump conversion, SakeBomb ignition, oil change with Mobil1, and THEN get a compression check.

J.H.C., this is becoming another Isuzu swap thread.

You are shooting blind. I doubt half the things you've "fixed" or think need fixed were/are actually broken, and if they are you've got a lemon. Of course that might be why someone sold it to you: they were tired of it giving them issues. That's certainly what it's starting to sound like.

Are you just a troll? You're sitting here spitting in everyone's faces thinking you're right when not a single person has actually agreed with you this entire thread. It's like watching a puppy **** in it's own face. Kinda funny and cute for a bit but after a while it's just an annoyance and we're left cleaning up the mess. Not to mention that your grammar and punctuation, or lack thereof rather, makes reading each of your posts a job equivalent to deciphering ancient manuscripts. At times I wonder if you're even speaking english.

P.S. Without an actually working car, why exactly did you make ANOTHER useless oil type post? https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-f...debate-263272/

Holy f*ck. OP, get a compression test or just sell the car to a competent person. Learn too spell. "Gunna" is not a word. Keep pissing money on ignition components or rubbing the gas tank for a genie to help you. This isn't some 1st grade intro on cars. Treat other member's advice with respect and stop skirting around possible diagnostics/solutions.

Drive it if possible to have it towed to a Mazda dealership for a compression test or buy a compression tester from TwistedRotors or RotaryCompressionTester.com. Mazda dealerships usually charges $100-$150. If you can afford new plugs and crap, you can afford a compression test. I almost wish I could run over, take the car from you, diagnose it and get it fixed to keep another RX on the road.

Stop speculating and posting random crap in the thread if you have no intention of following any advice given out. I'm not a know it all, but I have a pretty good understanding of the RX-8 and know how to troubleshoot one.

Okay so let me get this straight
1. I haven't taken any advice as a joke
2. The car had multiple problems i am adjusting as I go
3. If you aren't GOING TO help then stay off the post
4. Do you have $400 for a compression tester or one I could borrow because I sure don't
5. You have a tow truck to get my car SAFELY to a shop with out blowing anything by driving it with A CLOGGED CAT
6. You're obviously not that observant as again I'm cleaning and replacing all the broken / parts I found that weren't supposed to be there back to OEM and I haven't wasted more than $300 total. They were going to charge me more to change most of those parts anyway and that was the last of my money. I'm obviously waiting for a better time to come to bring the car to a specialist and actually have the money to work on it. Maybe your dumb *** needs your car taken away because if you're really that ignorant based on a post than obviously you don't deserve any acknowledgement or the PRIVILEGE to drive such a monster of a vehicle
