K&N vs. Stock vs. AEM intake

I see alot of posts saying that using the typhoon intake will cause the engine to idle badly and will cost the 8 horsepower. Is it really worth it for the nice sound or would you recommend the aem cold air intake?

"8hp" may be a bit too precise. It may be more, it may be less. It's more than just the power loss though. It's also the idle instability, the CELs, etc...

The only 2 intakes that are better than the stock intake are the AEM and the Racing Beat. The Mazdaspeed intake is the same as an AEM intake, just has a different label.

I'll comment on the sound part since I have it. It's not worth it for the sound unless you want to sound like a ricer, and personally, I would like to not be associated with that group. It basically sounds like a fart can, on your intake, horrible.

Racing beat is probably best, followed by aem, followed by stock

Google.com usually has one, though the AEM (which is the same thing) is also sold by a forum vendor: BHR.
