Hi,
I recently bought an rx8 with a P0171 fault code. Guessing its a intake vacuumleak i blew Cigar smoke into the intake hoping for any leaks. What i found is this:
With the engine running, whoosing sounds also come from this hole. But given that the hole looks like it supposed to be there im not sure if i should patch it up or not. The hole is machined to be there.
The symptoms i have right now are the P0171 fault and when revving in neutral, the car almost stalls.
In the first pic you can see a jet stream of the cigar smoke coming out of the hole with the car off.
The second pic shows roughly where the hole is located.
Welcome JL. By your post count ...I see you're a newbie. You came to the right place.
First, yes, a P0171 CEL indicates a vacuum leak, and not having "that port" plugged would constitute one.
See the vacuum hose run I highlighted yellow in the diagram below. That vac line run is used to feed vacuum to the solenoid chamber via the "green/white" check valve, which in turn drives operation of the UIM valve solenoids (shown in blue, red, & green). If it is unconnected ...you'll have a vac leak, and overall reduced performance of the car d/t the inoperation of the UIM valves.
In your first picture the hose on the green-side of the green/white check valve s/b connected there. Is it connected? If not, reconnect & zip tie it.
Edit: It looks like from your first pic the nipple of that port (onto which the hose seats) m/b broken off.
Again, welcome, and I recommend:
