intake with cone

I recently bought an 05 rx8 and I just noticed that the bottom part of the intake is missing and there is an after market cone clamped on the top part of the stock intake. Is that normal or safe?

not normal, probably safe even if it's not as efficient as the OEM.
picture?

I'm wondering if it's some type of aftermarket intake (AEM, K&N, Injen, etc) or if it's something the previous owner made himself.

If you can take a good digital picture, let me know and I can always have you email it to me so I can post it for you or I'll walk you through how to post a pic here if you prefer.

You have the pic on your computer right?
First make sure you resize it to about 8 x 10.
Then just make a post or edit one of your previous posts and find the button that says "go advanced" when that opens the post you are in, then scroll down and find "manage attachments", click it and a seperate little window will open then click "browse" in that little window and point it to the to the location of the picture, select it and then hit "upload". Once that's done......you can close the little window, then just submit the post as usual or "save" if you edited a previous one.

Now how's he gonna learn if you do all the work for him? If he can attach a pic to the E-mail, surely he could figure this out.

Another one.

Gotta love technology: Checking email, uploading pictures, and posting all of this from my phone.

And the top of the airbox does clamp down right? You just have it open to show the filter?

If that is true, then the cone(filter) just clamps onto the MAF tube that runs back to the accordion and then the throttle body................so how much of the back of the intake box is cut away? Just enough for the tube or the entire back?

Jorge.....am I seeing that pic correctly?
