Question Simota Intake (SIM-MZ011-POL)

Just received my new intake from Simota (SIM-MZ011-POL), it's not the Carbon Fiber model.

Here's a picture of it.

My RX8 is a 2004 6SPD MAN.

The problem I have is that the intake doesn't come with any instruction except a drawing showing what the intake looks like when it's together. I downloaded an instruction from Injen (that was my first choice, but was too expensive) because it gives a nice picture instruction on how to remove the stock intake.

I've never install an intake before but looking at the Injen instruction and comparing the components to the Simota, it looks pretty simple.

There's 2 things that I have questions on.

1. The intake manifold port, am I suppose to cap that off?

Simota supplied an extra hose, which I have no idea where that goes. I am thinking it goes into that port, but where does the other end go? Or what goes in or out of that port? NOTE: the frame of the Simota have a small slit on the top that fits the extra hose... looks like that's where the hose would hang off (for drips? lol... sorry).

2. Inside the stock airbox, there's a 3 3/4" metal screen, do I need to install this into the Simota? the reason I ask is because the Injen does. If I do need it should it go inside the coupler before the filter?

If anyone who owns one of these Simota Intake and can give some advice, that would be great or any advice would help too. Thanks.

wow I just checked rotaryfx.com and $229 for that intake??? if you haven't got too far with it pack it back in the box and return it... you will lose HP with that intake... get either the RB or AEM both are true CAIs. That one will suck hot air from the engine. The stock intake is better that that thing... sorry just trying to be honest...

what cornholio said. simota also makes 2 stules of cf cai type. Mazdaspeed, SR motorsports, autoexe, there are others that don's pull air from the engine compartment. I'd just return/exchange it.

Sweet, haven't even take the plastic bag off. I thought the same, but not to the mechanical side... just feels really crappy buying something with that price and I don't even get a decent instruction.

Definitely taking the advice... Also, I can't put in the stock one cause the tube between the manifold and the airbox was cut by the previous owner, not really sure why someone would do that.

Anyways, thanks for being honest...

Look around and post before you buy and the club can help you out. Most of them have been posted. Just try to find one with an enclosed filter or the aem/mazdaspeed cai that has a filter on the outside of the engine compartment.

Thanks Chad. That is what I am doing now...

My first choice was the INJEN closed box intake... which wasn't that bad of a price.

When I saw this one, I thought it was the Carbon Fiber model... which is totally my bad for not reading the product description better. The reason why I almost move forward to installing this one is because my stock intake is cut and I really don't want to drive my car with the possibilities of dust and debris going into my engine.

Anyways, enough sob story. I learnt my lesson and probably have to swallow the shipping cost to send it back. Oh well.

Right now I am liking the RB and the INJEN, I think I might go with my original choice, INJEN SP6080P SP Series. What do you think?

Thanks again!

ARRGHH!!! NO!!! search the forums dude, you will find MS and AEM are pretty much the only intakes with increases in HP, although most are less than 4HP

Many of the intakes that are available, still make use of the accordion tube. If your looking to replace it, research. Find one that will replace your faulty unit.

Beat me to it... doing that now lol.

The thing is I'm not tooooo concern about HP gain, I don't mind the stock intake... just there's alot of missing parts for it... I just need to search for all of them, put together a price and see the difference.

Of course I don't mind getting an after market either, if it's better and easy to install, I like the INJEN (the boxed one) and RB one because it's a cleaner look to the engine and I like the sound of the INJEN. I realize the AEM have a bigger HP boost but after looking at the installation... I am not sure I am confident doing the install... the INJEN one looks very easy and I hear good things about it also...

Would love to hear from anyone who have INJEN. And yes I am using the search function... but, since this thread is being answered, might as well ask.. Thanks

Well, did my research....

I need to purchase the upper cover... the previous owner cut between the sensor and the box itself, which is one piece. I looked it up on Mazda Parts.com and it's $290... ouch. I think I am going to go the aftermarket route.

Just gotta make up my mind if I guess.

I read the old thread about the INJEN which later turned into INJEN compared to RB. Didn't read the entire thread (was too long and the subject kept on changing), but I read to the Dyno testing.

RB looks really nice and it does fit well just like the INJEN.

Right now I am waiting for this person to reply https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-parts-sale-wanted-44/oem-intake-box-oem-engine-cover-agency-power-clutch-line-228691/

IF I can get this OEM AIRBOX that would save me some cash so I can purchase this http://www.mazmart.com/ItemDetail.aspx?id=1903

After that I am a happy camper.

BUT if there is no reply I might think of going the RB route after reading the thread...

After a long night of research I am burnt. Oh the SIMOTA is packed and ready to be returned... WOOT.

Highspeed,

I only need the air (filter) box and the clips. Specifically the upper cover of the filter box. If you can separate them, I would consider... but if you can't and if I don't get any response from the other member, I might holler you back up!

Thanks

A Simota intake in my 2005 Mazda3 resulted in the ripping out of the MAF sensor wires, costing me hundreds of dollars in repairs. Run away from Simota.

Thanks Highspeed, I think I found one off the parts forum.

To everyone else, thanks for the advice.

The Simota have been returned and looking to get a replacement airbox. This should conclude this thread.

Now off to purchasing tune up parts; coils, plugs, plug wires at mazmart (unless others have better advice), then probably a new starter.. after that I should be happy and confident that my new/use toy can stay healthy and get the wifey off my back about buying a used sports car.. LOL

If anyone have advice on other things I should replace or look into, please let me know... THE WIFE CANNOT WIN THIS!!

By far this is a great site and community.

Thanks Guys,

Chanse
