For better or worse, your updates since my last post have meant nothing. A bunch of exposition about different subjects but no concrete information to work with. But i will comment on one piece of said information.

You, Petscar, purchased a Rx8 without having gotten a PROPER and credible compression check. You did follow every point on the buyers guide except that one. Whatever test you did do, it means NOTHING.

My Rx8, my very own beloved Rx8 in my driveway right now, cold starts perfect and hot starts usually okay. My ignition system is running perfect and all new, my starter cranks the engine around 320rpm, fuel system and everything is perfect.

Guess what, my motor's compression numbers corrected and adjusted to 250 rpm are 60-61-59 psi on the front rotor and 53-54-52 psi on the rear rotor. All it takes is one hiccup and my motor is going to have a disasterous failure, hence why it is in my driveway with a car cover on it and wont be leaving that spot until the motor has been replaced.

All of that said, ill spell everything out for you again and you wont have any answers to your problems until you follow my instructions.

1) Take your car to Mazda and get the fuel pump recall done for free. You will get a new fuel pump housing, which is for your safety ultimately, and usually they just replace the entire assembly because its much faster and as a result cheaper, so you will get a brand new fuel pump. That resolves that issue

2) Dont overfill your oil ever again, thats what a dipstick is for ya dipstick. Helps keep you from cleaning the MAF a bunch too.

3) Get off your **** and check your damn cat converter already. Your meaningless jibberish means nothing with it being all speculation. CHECK IT.

4) Do a proper compression test like the last time I chimed in. A proper test with a rotary engine compression tester. RECORD the tester so you can keep the results properly documented.

We can go from there after you have responded to all 4 points appropriately. Until then posting in this thread is meaningless.

Sincerely,
The next 9krpm, Xero
You are the 9krpm we deserve, but not the one we need...

IIRC he got a rotary compression test from another member living near him(Furansu).

Agreed on the fuel pump recall.

For filling oil, I would go to a place that knows what they are doing. It's not uncommon for some of the less competent shops to overfill the oil because they just follow the number on the manual without checking how much they actually drained out. I personally always pour in 2~2.5 L first after draining and then check the dipstick to see how much more I need to add.

And yes, without physically examining the cat, we can only guess and speculate. TeamRX8 said the exact same thing to me when I was being lazy, LOL. I finally checked it just to see it's fine.

Wow! I didnt realize you were so irritated by my posts. Perhaps a little more info might shed a bit of light where there seems to be darkness. First off, when i bought the car months ago, i knew that the engines lasted between 80 - 120k miles as per a mazda service manager. Knowing that and only that, i bought a car with low miles thinking i would get some life out of it. I always loved the car since 2003 and always wanted one. I was willing to bite the bullet on a car that might not last too long.

Everything else that ive since learned came after i bought the car. I didnt know about getting a compression test before buying the car. Everything i have since learned started after i bought the car and after i found this site. And let me say, my eyes have been opened to the myriad of things i wish i would have known beforehand.

That being said, i have been doing everything i have learned since, one thing at a time starting with a compression test thru a fellow member i met on this site. I am subject to his availability so things get done when he has time. Being 66 with a bad back, i cannot do the work myself.

As to your points....

1) The fuel pump has already been replaced by Mazda from the previous owner.

2) I have never overfilled the oil. I said there was some evidence the previous owner may have done that. I do also know another place i can insert the oil stick. 😯😯😯

3) Unfortunately, i have a hard time getting off my *** (the way us Yanks say it) as i do have some physical issues and i am subject to my rx8 guru's availability. But yes it is on the list.

4) And yes, because there is a question about the original compression test, Kris and i have discussed doing another one. FYI, he doesnt exactly live around the corner from me.

Since i met Kris on this site, he has looked at the general condition of the car mechanically and advised it was in good shape. He has checked out the temp control unit which the circuit board needs re soldered. Checked my brakes. Ran a diagnostic as per the app he has. Has done a compression test, changed the plugs, wires and coils. Flushed the brake/clutch system. Changed my starter to an N3R3. Helped me with deflooding the engine. Cleaned my MAF and air filter. And probably a couple of other things i cant remember.

As you can see, in a few short months, we have done quite a bit.

So there you have it. Do me a favor. If posting here is meaningless....just follow your own advice.....and dont.

One more thing....its time for you to get off your **** and replace your engine instead of letting sit on your driveway. 😁😁😁 And i do mean that in the nicest way. 😇😇😇

I'm not irritated by your posts persay, more so just not the kind of person to put up a happy-go-lucky front anymore and just jump straight to the point. Sometimes coming off mildly as a d-bag gets you some information you were otherwise lacking prior, and it appears to have worked and came back with some great information.

1) Excellent, glad to hear thats out of the way. Its a huge safety concern more than anything else.

2) Another good thing to consider and check is the appearance and consistency of the residue in the intake accordian. If its a medium (poop) brown and thick like grease in consistency, its atomized oil that came up and cooled in the intake assembly. Typically you see this as oil breaks down with age and vapors travel into the intake assembly. If possible, i would install a baffled oil catch can.

3) I know it can be tough. I may be only 27, however as a result of a car accident i was in back in 2014, i have permanent nerve damage in both my arms along with carpel tunnel and pulmenary tunnel in both arms from my joints getting pretty compressed. Not to mention that same accident caused permanent damage in my lower back (L2,L3,L4) where each respective disc is either crushed, herniated, or torn. Most days are pretty good days, but some days are pretty unbearable. That accident was the one my first ever Rx8 was totaled in. Luckily, i lived and walked away.

4) If you can afford it, buy one right now while it is on sale. If all goes well, i will be buying one before years end to take advantage of the discount.

You are doing well, and you are on the right track. We are here to help, and while i will not pretend to be the most knowledgeable person around, I have been here a while now especially considering the average beginning of ownership of nearly all of our currently active forum members. I check the forum often and im willing to help those who are actually trying to do good (which you are), i just needed to twist your arm a bit to get what I wanted

@Jin - Got the thermostat today, at least i hope thats what you actually sent. I havent opened the box yet lol. I'm no 9k, but also 9k is way more harsh and less helpful initially. He wouldve just commented some insult and that wouldve been his entire post lol

First and fore most, let me say i am sorry to hear about your accident. I understand your struggle with pain especially that some days can be unbearable. My 6 lower discs are degenerated or herniated. Ive lived with this for 25 years. I also had both hips replaced as i result of owning a couple of restaurants and working 60 - 70 hours a week always on my feet. Add into it my age, and all the other things you young bucks dont have to deal with yet and you can wind up with a mess physically.

That being said, on the bright side, i bought a car that is for fun, fun and some more fun. Life is what you make it. And i am making my retirement fun. Yes the car can be a PIA, or in your terms a pain in the ****, but so far i am making every effort to do whatever it takes to get the optimum use out of it. There are days i ask myself is this car really worth it? Yet here i am, trying to accommodate the car and all its needs. As Kris keeps telling me, the RX8 is not for the faint of heart. Aint that the truth!

Its a sweet looking ride that is a blast to drive and full of quirkiness. The car is not just for anybody. You have to have a certain degree of commitment to own one. Others have described it as a love/hate relationship. In my younger days being more resilient both physically and mentally, owning this car would have been a little easier, but i am a tough old goat that doesnt give up easiy. So for now, i am a kid again playing with my new toy. Its nice to remind myself what it feels like being a teenager again owning my first car which was a 67 Ford Falcon Sports Coupe. It even had bucket seats. I added a cherry bomb muffler, leaf spring lifters, and assorted additions to make it more cool including the best 8 track you ever heard. She was no Mustang or Camaro, but she was mine! Lots of great memories.

And FYI, there are some people that do need a kick in the **** by being a mild d-bag whilst there are some like myself that just want the straight scoop. Cheers! 👍👍👍
