Car starts cold but not when hot
Car starts cold but not when hot
Ok guys not sure if I'm in the right place to post this but gonna try. I have an 04 rx8 the car will crank and just fine when cold I will let the car sit there and idle but as the car gets warm the rpm start to drop. After about 15 mins or so when the car is warmed up it will go dead. I can try and restart the car and nothing it just cranks with no start I have replaced the starter and the purge valve the one under the intake I also have my cat gutted. Need to know what the problem could be because I'm ready to get my 8 back on the road I miss it thx in advance.
This is a very classic symptom of compression loss. Have you checked your compression with a rotary-specific compression tester?
The other possibility is the fuel pump, but I would check compression first if you haven't done so already.

You could use an upgraded 2KW starter. It helped a lot with my hot starts and now I don't notice much difference starting whether its hot or cold it fires right up. But, you should also get a compression test done as others have posted just for peace of mind. Another thing you can try is replacing your ignition coils. A lot of the time this can be the cause for poor hot starts.

Tnx for the replies and no I haven't done the compression test going to this weekend and I do have the upgraded starter. Where can I get a fuel line that runs from the fuel pump to the front the one I have on now has the quick connect cut off bc someone broke the nipple off the fuel pump where it connects to.
Um, this might be the whole cause of your hot start problems... definitely run tests on the fuel lines and pump first before you do anything else.
