Factory alarm going off on its own.. think I have this about figured out

Hello! When I got my RX-8 a few months ago the horn was broken and I was curious as to why the lights would occasionally flash. Got the horn fixed and realized that it's my factory alarm going off randomly!

So I've read all the threads and here's what I can deduce. It is not an aftermarket alarm, it's the stock alarm/immobilizer whatever you want to call it. Seems to be more active when it rains. Locking it and reaching in through the windows with the doors locked neither throws that alarm. I was baffled. However, I opened the trunk over the weekend with the button on the bottom side of the bumper (have an '08 with the credit card key) and my alarm went off! Leads me to believe that it's the trunk switch/senor/whatever that's bad.

I've seen people link to the parts for the doors, talk about splicing the wires to do the hood one, but I have no idea where the hood alarm sensor or trunk alarm sensor is to move forward. Does it make sense to everyone else that if popping the trunk while the car is locked/armed sets the alarm that that's the faulty one?

Also, been a member a while but not posted much. What do I have to do to not have to post in the New Member Forum? Thanks so much!

Could be an issue with the battery. Make sure it is well connected and is still good. If the battery has issues, the alarm randomly going off is a known symptom.

Don't think it's the battery but I'll have it tested just to be sure. Thanks for the feedback.

How would the trunk switch seem to be involved if the battery was bad?

Not sure, if you can see that it goes off because of that then that is a weird problem I've never personally encountered. I have had issues with bad batteries randomly setting the alarm off though. Hopefully that's the issue and the trunk switch may just be a coincidence.
