Changed motor , kept old transmission

Hey , so bear n mind I’m a FEMALE and doing this for 1st time ALONE 😋 soo I blew my clutch to start with. Replaced that and at same time have changed my old 05 manual motor and replaced with 09 auto motor. Kept my manual trans, computer..and most of the other things off manual motor. It’s in and will turn over, hasnt actually started though, if I bypass regulator n start by touching wires straight under bonnet it turns over. Red lites come on when turn key but it just won’t start or turn over with the key. Grrr. The security car thing flashes on dash also?? Please help I am lost now n dunno where to start??????

I'm not sure if using an auto motor in a manual car will work they are different engine's.. but maybe someone can provided more details about an auto and manual shell.

The issue you're describing seems to be an immobilizer problem.

A 2009 auto motor will still be a 6-port motor so that fine. However, the 2009+ oil metering system is very different from the 2004-2008. In the earlier engines, it's a single mechanical pump. In the later engines it's a pair of electrical pumps. The 2005 ECU will not be able to make any sense of the 2009 OMP.

So, even if you get it running, I'm not certain you'll have much luck actually keeping it running. At the very least, it will be stuck in limp mode and the engine will probably eat itself due to lack of lubrication.

Hey thanks for reply. I know they do work, I think I stuffed up by using wireing loom from auto motor, mayb I re do and put my old loom off manual motor!!?? Mrrrrr confused ��*♀️

It sounds like you're not from north america, so it'll be important if your 05 was originally the low power 4 port or high power 6 port. Ditto for the engine you replaced it with. Long story short, not all engines fit in all cars, so you need to be real clear about what car you started with and what engine you put in.

Shorting the starter to turn the engine won't get you anywhere because it sounds like the immobilizer is preventing the computer from firing any spark or fuel. So you make sure the engine computer, the key and the ignition cylinder are from the same car, and if they are and it still flashes, you need Mazda to program the key to work with the ECU. It's an anti-theft feature of the car.

How did you even connect everything together? 09 engine wiring will be different from the 05. This should not work.

09 engine is a Series 2 engine, while 05 engine is a Series 1 engine. Many mechanical differences between the 2 engines, like the extra 2 oil injectors on the Series 2 engine.

Dropping an S2 engine in an S1 body is not as easy as it sounds. You will need a new ECU, redo the wiring to make it work. I'd just return the engine if possible at this point. Make sure you have the same type of engine you had before. If you are outside of North America, check if it's a 4-port or 6-port like mentioned.

Cool, thanku sooo much for helping me by the way, you guys are actually awesome.
so I car jammed the plates of both cars, the auto motor I have put into my 2005 car with a 5speed manual trans is actually a 2008 not 2009! Sorry I should’ve checked this at the start lol, female brain !!🙄
Is this a good thing or not?? Will post pictures of spec that I have,

It still wouldn't work, unfortunately.

The 5-speed manual was paired with a 4-port engine from the factory, while a 6-speed automatic was paired with a 6-port. A 4-port ECU will be very confused with a 6-port engine due to the different intake system and the lack of some valves on the 4-port.

Here is a diagram for reference:




FYI there are 4 engine and trans combos of Series 1 sold:

4-port 4AT
4-port 5MT(not sold in North America)
6-port 6MT
6-port 6AT(not sold in Europe)

So you will want to look for a 4AT or the same 5MT RX-8. I am not sure if the 4AT engine will bolt right on without any modification, but you can probably make it work without much trouble since most of the parts are the same.
