2009 Engine swap
Hey all, I'm looking at finally getting my RX8 after lusting for one since 2003
My question is this, if I go for a super clean 2004 will I be able to "easily" replace the motor with the 2009 version with the upgraded oil system?
I plan on installing a mild FI system so I figure there is a decent chance that after a few years of FI on the 2004 motor I just may need a new one
Sorry if there is a thread on this already but I couldn't seem to find one.
Thanks!!

I think you miss the point. The 2009 motors have a 3rd oil nozle for better lubrication of the apex seal. If I have to pull the motor I'd rather raplace it with the most reliable/current version of the Renny.
What I'd like to know is if the footprint of the 2009 motor is the same and if there would be any ECU issues regarding the new motor...
As for engine replacment costs I'm looking down the road a few years atleast so it's hard to tell what that price difference would be by then.

If you're worried about lubrication just get a rebuilt pre 09 motor and run a good amount of premix and keep the OMP functional. Kinda of a waste to spend the money on an 09 motor, considering you would have to get a complete harness and ECU to make it work. It's not a plug and play with pre 09's.

I second the just get the 09. However, I've noticed for the most part, that the people who are on the forums the most tend to have the least trouble. Either way do your research and you'll be fine.
