The consensus seems to be that redlining in 1st doesn't help all that much, while 2nd can do a bit of cleaning, and if you can pull to redline in 3rd, it can be quite beneficial.
The tricky part then becomes where to do the 3rd gear redline because that's quite fast. Observe your local laws and speed limits, obviously.
