Hehe....

I've said it a zillion times before -- I've driven in snow with the OEM tires and: IT'S A NIGHTMARE!!!

One piece of advice. The tread on the OEM tire is actually OK on snow in reverse... so don't hesitate to whip yourself around 180 degrees and drive around backwards

Off topic for my10ea, The turbo timer works on an automatic. Call the good folks at Rx7.com and tell them what you are using the TT for and they will be good to you (I hope). Sorry I didn't get back to you on the appropriate thread, I just was losing my mind with the asinine comments.

I continue to deceive myself that the winter won't be as horrible as last year. I really don't want to put ugly steel wheels on my 8, so I caught a ride with my wife this morning. Once we got out of our street, it was just nasty slush...I wonder if I could have made it...

true that. first snow today here in nj and it was like my tires were on ice skates. AWFUL! 4 new tires on rims will cost me over $1000.

So with all this bad weather on the way, does anyone recommend any tires in particular? Looking to get some for winter driving. Still have my stock tires and don't even want to drive around with them now after this snowfall.

Well, the thought of doing a search is an obvious one as we could all do that for just about everything here rather than post any questions, but I was really asking if anyone has any recommendations from ones they have purchased, driven and like. Regardless, thanks for the link.

Wish that worked out.
Here is my snow story from Thursday night:

I got home just as it was getting bad. In my neighborhood, we got 3 or 4 inches more than the rest of the DC area.
I managed to make it all around the beltway and up 270 with no problem. It was my street that almost got me in trouble.
I made the left to go down the street that leads to mine and saw that it was snowy. No matter - I'm only doing 3 MPH, right?
Well, as I get to my street 150 feet later I let off the gas to ease into the right turn. The lift throttle oversteer (at 3 MPH mind you) brought the ***-end around me to the left and the DSC/ABS went nuts - WITH NO PEDAL INPUTS!
I steered into it, laughing the whole way 'cause, well, I'm a whack-job I guess.
As I passed right by my street in a full-lock drift at a perfect right angle, I hit the throttle. Nothing.
The DSC took me out of the loop altogether.
So, I go past my street, still in a full-lock drift and moving so slowly that I could have gotten out of the car and got a haircut as I watch my car drive itself.
Now, starting to get a little frustrated that I am looking at a curb, so I try the brakes to no avail and then begin to steer out of the drift so that I am pointing back up the street and going backwards.
Give it gas. Nothing.
I am now sliding down the street backwards, the ABS and DSC are bleating and bonking and I am still going 3 MPH.

Backwards.

At this point in the story, you might be thinking "Hey. Wow! It must have been really scary and moving so fast but felt like you were moving in slow motion, Jeff!".
No.
At this point, what would have been fractions of a second in a typical unintential yaw incident was actually a full 10 or 15 seconds. I was getting ready to call for Chinese carry out or delivery pizza to come visit me as I gave futile control inputs.
I was standing on the gas, feathering the clutch and getting no more than 2000 RPM, ABS bonking along the whole way with no brake pedal useage at all.
Finally, I gave up on the ECU and held in the DSC switch.
Lots of throttle, lots of steering and it came to a stop.
No amount of throttle was going to get me back up the street (it is almost flat - just a very slight incline, but it could have just as well been Mount Washington in New Hampshire), so I got out.
It started to slide back down the street as I closed the door!
So I whip it open, jump in, start it and nail the gas again. Nothing,
G*D D*MNED F*CKING DSC AGAIN!
Hold the button and stood on the gas spinning the tires 'til I hit pavement.
Mind you, this is only 6 or 8 inches of soft, fluffy snow. No ice.
I leave it running, get out, slam the door and push it a bit to see if it will leave again. Fortunately, the LSD allowed both tires to burn down to pavement.
Went home got the Miata and the girlfriend and 15 feet of chain and dragged it home with the nifty removeable tow hook.
Towed it 200 feet or so. With a Miata. In snow. On cheap Khumho tires.

My RX-8 is staying in the garage until it is BONE DRY out there again.

Wow that must have been a frustrating day, especially since the car started rolling by itself.

Well I only took her out friday during the day before we got the 14 inches, i think it was at 3 or 4 by then, anyway I went to fill the tank because every Friday is 5 cents off super, so I dont care what weather it is Im getting my gas lol, plus i was curious to see the 8 in this weather. So I start out going on a pretty steep incline with no problem. i whip her around a corner, very little swaying with my back end. so of course im thinking no problem in this weather, ill be able to do anything, ehhhh wrong. I get to the gas station and as im pulling in my tires start to spin. I couldnt get up the little drive way to get into the pump. Like i said 5 cents off, ill get to the pump, so i back up into the street, get up to 10 mph and just barely make it into the station.

And thats the last action she saw for the weekend, unfortunately i dont have a garage so she slept on the street, but fortunately the camry is great in this weather, anyone else have any fun:D ?

Yes, the beauty of this town - few places with garages.
