Costco premium gas off of Broad and Springfield is $1.71. I don't notice any difference between costco premium versus other premium, it's still 93 octane. So that's what I've been using. Need a membership card though to get gas there.

If 9K is talking about Costco then I am sure Costco in NY is cheaper too.

Yeah, Elara...Cost Co...I got a membership just for the gas prices and its $1.71, and like Dragonfruit says...there ain't no diffrence..

I am not sure where there is a cost go here...I will check the website...it they might have a store locator on that.

I have seen one velocity red 8 since I have been here. I came out of Best Buy here yesterday, and there was a group of people looking at my 8. There are not that many around. I talked to them, and they were realy inquisitive about it. I haven't seen a Mazda dealer here..so I don' think people can just go and check one out.

My across the street neigbor said yesterday that he will let me drive his Porche Boxter if I let him drive my 8.

I will take him up on that!

My brother complains that every time I buy a rotary, the price of gas goes up substantially.

1972, 1978, 2003 ....

At least they are not rationing gas this time.

Technically this is my 4th.

1972 RX-2
1978 1/2 RX-7
1985 RX-7 GSL Automatic
2004 RX-8

In 76 or 77 I almost bought a Cosmo. Luckily I didn't and the RX-7 came out shortly there after. Got one of the first 25 in Richmond.

The 1985 GSL was for my wife, which is probably why gas prices didn't go up in 1986. However the car didn't work out so we eventually sold it to a friend (who loved it).

Do you have any pics of the RX2?

What are your impressions? What were the biggest problmes you had? I heard it was either the cosmo or the RX2 that had the most issues. I think engine replacement therapy was a common practice then.

Ahhh, ok. I don't use Costco because when I had my mom's station wagon, I could tell a difference in it and Exxon- so I don't really trust it. I guess the car was so old it was picky. Anyway, I don't get money back at Costco, so I'll just stick to what I can buy inside.

Supposedly the most octane gas you can get other than Sunoco is Sheetz. Yes, Sheetz, I was surprised too when I found out. I'm not saying it is the best gas but it does have the most octane.

The car was great fun! It was my first 4 door rotary. I would blow away V8s right and left. I sold it in 1978 at 96K miles and it was in great condition. People did think I was strange. Both Mazda and rotary cars were rare.

Yes, the early 12A engines did have a problem with the water seal O rings. The aluminum housing expanded and contracted at a different rate than the steel housing and the rings would erode. Water went in the radiator and out the tail pipe. When you started the car after sitting for a while you got gobs of smoke out the back. It started OK for me as I believe that water was only pooling in one rotor. Talk about flooding ....

This occurred late in life (75K miles) and Mazda was great about it. I got a factory rebuilt short-block installed for something like $300.

Attached is a picture I found on the Internet. Mine was royal blue, with hubcaps and a normal chrome antenna, but you get the idea. I'll see if I can find a picture at home
.

Well, you have to remember the car (a compact family sedan) retailed for $3,000 new so the short-block would probably be like $1,000 or $1,500 in contemporary dollars. Still, not a bad deal.

That looks awesome, not too hot on the rim choice though. Old skool mesh type with polish lip or panasport is the way to go.

Old Skool Watanabes (Panasport style)

If I wasn't heading to NoVA I'd be there...sounds like it'll be fun tonight! I hate missing it so much, but this whole house thing is kicking our tails right now.

Dragonfruit, I think I saw you on Broad heading away from Shortpump towards *** about 11:45- at least, it looked like you, and was driving a black 8 with red interior.

After one more trip to Manhattan I will be coming back to VA today.

I can't belive how much props my 8 has been getting. I was in Conneticuit on Thursday and a guy with M3 honked at me and gave me thumbs up.

When I am stopped at traffic lights people roll down their windows and compliment the car.

This is NY guys!

Anyway, I paid $32 for a tank of gas yesterday..I can't wait to get out of here.

Yeah sounds like people in NY really appreciate a good car when they see it. It sucks having a nice car in NY city though because of all the traffic, pot holes, and jerks who run into you. My brother went to the Bronx for residency and granted he didn't have a nice car, (1990 Isuzu Stylus) the suspension was practically destroyed after he was there for a year, and had major dings all around the car. He still managed to keep that thing forever, and finally donated it to charity a couple of years ago. Yeah I hope there wasn't too much wear and tear on your 8 from your trip this week. If I ever end up in NY city I would probably have to get a SUV.

By the way we need more rotary support at the short pump meet. I was the only rotorhead there last nite. The Evo's and WRX's are taking over, can't have that now can we?

Oh and I just discovered how wonderful the magic car wash is, I may never hand wash my car again (j/k).

Geez I really hope pollen season will be over soon, I've been having to bath my baby every week. After the carwash it felt lighter with the pounds of pollen gone. :D

Every week? Try every day! The parking lot at work is LINED with flowering pears or something stupid like that.

I'll probably be able to make it to Short Pump this weekend coming up...

WOW! Deja vu.. Finaly I am not the only one that tries to drum up rotary presence anymore.

I am back in the all too cost effective VA. Thank god!

Here are some cool pics from my trip!
