Well...I might not be able to make it...

Today as I was heading home from work, the A/C was loosing its effectiveness. When the car was moving it cooled ok, but as soon as I stopped all that came out was warm air. I let it sit at idle to see if it would cycle cold/hot like it did last summer before I got the TSB amplifier installed. It just blew really warm air. It didn't really bother me, but I decided to bring it in to the dealer. I took it to Quirk in Quincy. The highway ride was ok, the A/C worked alright, but as sson as I got off the highway and into traffic, the A/C started doing it's hot air thing. I glanced down at the guages and noticed the coolant temp needle almost into the red. I immediately turned on the heat full blast.....well a lot of babying and killing the engine when not needed to move got me to the dealer. It didn't boil over or anything but it sure ran hot. I hope the Mobil1 did it's thing and protected the motor enough. I think it's the cooling fan, I haven't heard it running, and the car's temp and A/C works fine as long as the car is moving. We'll see what needs to be replaced or fixed.....I really want the car for Sunday......

Sorry to hear that.

That doesn't sound good at all. Did you had a chance to check the coolant level before leaving it at the dealership? After reading your post, I'll have to remember to check the gauges too if I see symptoms that resemble an A/C amp failure.

I check the coolant every time I check the oil...it always looked fine. I checked it before I left the dealer and it was up to level and wasn't hissing or otherwise showing any signs of overheating.

I'm pretty sure its the cooling fan..I just hope it gets fixed in time.....

That stinks man, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope its nothing serious. Have you ever had your coolant system flushed? They should be able to diagnose it very quickly.

11,000 miles...haven't done any major services yet. I'm 100% sure it was the cooling fan...now I hope it was just a fuse or relay, and I'll get the car back asap. I need to kill some cones....but if the RX8 isn't ready, I'll be running the wife's 94 Corolla wagon.

Just keep an eye on it sunday after they replace it. You don't want to be having the car run hot at Devens.

Well, I got the car back....it's all nice and cool now...A/c and engine are cool. They replaced both fan assemblies. They also managed to break the temp control ****,and put a crack in my defroster button. That sucks.....I have to go back and ask for them to fix it.....

Great time today!!! The car stayed nice and cool, the A/c worked and I didin't spin! My best time was 75.43

I hope that I can get some wheels to mount a spare set of Potenza's.....anything will be better than these greasy all season Sumitomo's.

I also have video, but need a site to host it...anybody here got some advice?

oooh- did you get me on video? :D

3 runs just wasn't enough- I felt like I was just getting started. My best was 71.667, and I know there is a ton of time left in there for me to get.

I had the tires at 40lbs each. I was understeering a lot. Part of that was due to the fact that I was entering turns too fast (in slow, out fast!!!). But, still, does anybody have any suggestions for pressures next time? I was thinking perhaps add more pressure to the rears?

EDIT- also, anyone have a recommendation for an alignment shop here?

Guys, sorry I didn't make myself more acessable yesterday. On Sat, I was one of the organizers for the Subaru Wicked Big Meet at Nashoba where we had 353 cars show up... so I was wiped after Sat.

Anyways, it was nice to see the 8s out there running around, even in the sweltering heat. It's usually quite cooler this time of year.

Heya, it's good see some new RX-8 drivers in Ft. Devens. Yesterday was really hot, but I think getting to see a Noble M12 (a freaking Noble!) being tech inspected, with the mid-engine hood open, is worth it.

HAHA...I only kept the camera in the car.....so all I have is video of me and my friend that drove as well. I felt like I could knock maybe a second to a second and a half, but I couldn't touch you guys' times. You guys all had real tires....next event I will have better tires....

It was awesome, and I will be going to all that I can, so I hope to see all you guys there!!

This is a school, not an event. You need to be pre registered and a member to attend. See www.nescc.org for details.

There's the national tour 7/9 to 7/10....I know you have to be a member and pre-register....I won't be going to that.

But Event #6, 7/24....that's a normal event right? I plan on going to that one.....

Thanks for the correction. I had it on my calerndar as an event. They must have changed it since the original calendar was put out.

Either way, if I weren't at the Oscoda ProSolo, I'd be there. :D
