I took the L6 out of my 240z through the bottom. After dropping the engine, I was surprised to find that I could easily lift the nose of the car with one hand and drag the engine/trans clear with the other.
Turns out, a car on jackstands is also a class 1 lever.

Changed my plan direction when I found that my largest 1/4 drive breaker bar wasn't breaking free one of the front primary bolts, the first one I went to work on. So rather than damaging something rather critical, just changed paths.

Engine is free of the engine bay now though, major thing holding it in is the driveshaft, trying to figure out how to disconnect it from the transmission.

1/4 drive breaker bar?
Doesn't the yoke of the drive shaft just slide out of the transmission?

Typo, 1/2 drive.

And yeah, just figured that out a few minutes ago. Found a part of the wiring harness loom that goes through an anchor bracket on the engine on it's way to the rear that it's still connected. Working on that now.

It's out!

New Jackson Racing header and highflow cat. Well, newly purchased. Obviously used. You can see the CA spec boat anchor and header-cat in the above pic.

Just figured I would update for those subscribed. This is finally done. Got it fired up as the hurricane/tropical storm was wearing itself out.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcgtE201u1k

This was the next day after getting it back into my driveway, before installing the high flow cat.

My final list of things done:
- Replaced engine, water pump, header (upgrade), cat (upgrade), motor mounts (upgrade), plugs, wires, valve cover gasket, alternator belt, O2 sensor, crank angle sensor, all water lines, and all fluids.
- Completely cleaned the valve cover, pulleys, UIM, LIM, throttle body, EGR, and intake.
- Built wiring harness extensions for both O2 sensors.
- Deleted power steering and A/C. (enjoying no PS actually)

Total cost was about $1,300, including $350 for the replacement exhaust and about $150 in reusable tools.

Quite satisfied with the results and total cost.
