Make sure you put the screen over on the filter and don't drive into a lake and you will be fine.

Frankly, I don't expect much on the performance side. I only got it for the looks and to enhance the puny engine tone of the stock RX-8 :-)

Sounds pretty good, what mid-pipe/exhaust combo do you have, if any? (I can't even remember how mine sounded stock!)

 

I still have the stock exhaust. I was planning on getting a cat back but a visit to the dealer for repairs set me back $3K so it'll have to wait. What do you guys recommend? Greddy or Borla? I'm looking for a rich tone, not something too loud or obnoxious.
I installed the intake yesterday. Took about 3 hours and was smooth. My only question is what to do with all the vacuum line stuff and the sensor. The instructions say to "cap the inlet at the manifold" on step m, removal of the vacuum line but I have no idea what that means since the entire assembly is removed with the airbox. Any idea?

Stock cat/resonator, but the cat has been gutted. "Muffler" (and I use the term loosely...) is B&B (Billy Boat) stainless.

Racing Beat REV8. Better made imho and cheaper.

Definitely not B&B if you don't want loud.

 

I would recommend the racing beat exhaust if you don't want it to be too loud.

You can get vacuum line caps at advance auto parts or autozone etc. they come in packages of assorted sizes for like 5 bucks, and you just stick on on there. They're a press fit and the vacuum holds them in place.

I got my new oil lines in, I'm not installing them this weekend but hopefully I'll have time to do so next weekend, then my oil consumption will go from 'horrifying' back to 'annoying, but quite charming actually'

AEM had included one such cap but what got me confused is that it was way too small to fit. I ended up heating it up and slipping it in real fast

I'm on the lookout for a 2k myself, I have a bad bearing in my clutch assembly and plan to just replace the whole shebang with the exedy street/autocross kit, might as well throw a 2k on while I'm under there

 

Hey didn't one of you guys have a set of wheel spacers to get rid of? I figured I need 18mm spacers to get the 17" mazda6 winter set to sit at the same point as the stockers so that's what I'm on the lookout for, I'd do anywhere from 15 to 20mm.

 

that was me. They were 25mm. Sold em though. And nate, you're the tire man. Any experience with direzza dz101?

 

The DZ101 are a step down from the Z2 and the old Z1 Star Specs in terms of performance but what you gain is alot more longevity, with as much as I drive I'd still burn them up in a year but at least theyd make it the whole year. Z2s wouldnt make it more than about 10-15k miles, but the 101 you could expect 20-30k miles from them. Of course less if youre lighting them up and drifting everywhere.

I've seen the 101 in use at autocross and it performs pretty well for a run of the mill summer tire. The guy with the "ATH1EST" license plate had a set last season and wasn't entirely uncompetitive.

Dont forget they're still a summer compound so you'll want something else for really cold weather and snow when they would turn of stone.

If price is the factor you could also consider the Sumitomo HTR ZIII which is similarly cheap, similarly long lasting and a higher performance category. Plus they're non-directional so they are brainless to rotate.

If you've got a little bit more you can spend the next tire Id recommend is the ExtremeContact DW (not the DWS, just DW) They cost a little over 25% more, but are a significant increase in performance over the 101.

That said I do recommend the DWS (with the S) if you intend to use these all year long

Anyone here work at a Mazda dealer or a auto shop? I need to replace my OEM clutch damn thing is slipping bad.

I will probably be purchasing a OEM replacement clutch kit from Mazmart. Also will I need to get the flywheel resurfaced, replaced all together, or just pick up a replacement Friction plate for the flywheel from mazdatrix? RX8 Flywheels

I am down to help/learn and pay for labor/time. Just really don't want to do this in a driveway on my back.

If anyone can help PM me please, as I don't really get on here much anymore.
