Cruise?
I saw a post a few days back now about someone trying to put together a cruise. From where to where and what time frame? When I was in NC a few weeks ago I saw a random RX7-8 line up. I've yet to see one in MD.
I don't have the time to get back into AutoX with school and work, but I will try to bring my son out to and support my fellow RX8's.

MD Cruise September/October
Looking to do this route (http://goo.gl/maps/JMXgv) sometime in late September/early October. Seems like we have a good bit of interest, so I think we could get something nice together. Take a look and let me know what you think.

Good mechanic recommendation (again)
I finally decided to bite the bullet and make the trek to PF Supercars but nobody there answers the phone or emails. Are they out of business?
I'm tired of getting ripped off by the incompetent dealership or getting blank stares from mechanics when they open the hood of my 2004 RX-8.
I have a very elusive check engine light on that nobody was able to fix for over a year. I also wanted to spruce up performance a bit. Maybe a new cat back and a dyno tuneup.
Could anyone recommend a good place to go to around the DC area?
Thanks!

What is the CEL code? Symptoms?
If you want to swing by sometime I can pull the code and at least tell you that.

From what I've heard about PFS, it's a place to avoid nowadays; the guy that runs the place now is apparently a decent guy, but the shop itself has really gone downhill since Peter Farrell stopped being associated with it. The dozen or so partially completed project cars that seem to have been sitting outside for months don't make me feel to confident about them either.
Just my largely uneducated $.02

Don't you live less than a block from a fire station? Chances are no one will even need to call them over; they'll just see it and show up.

bladeiai, BrokenRecord, RJayX-8: thank you for your help with my mechanical issues.
I checked out Unique Precision Rotary. Looks like he's doing this out of his house garage! The picts look good, I just hope he has the time. Looks like a one man operation.
I got so many different trouble codes, I'm actually thinking it's the computer itself gone crazy.
Right now, I get
P0204 - Injector 4 Circuit Open
P2004 - Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Open
P0104 - Mass Air Flow Circuit Intermittent
And then I get weird things reported by my Kiwi that are not trouble codes but don't look right.
The Fuel System Status is often at CL-Fault (whatever that means...)
The Short Term Fuel Trim: Bank 1, Sensor 2 is always at 0% (again, I have no idea what that means)
I've posted screenshots of all those in an album on my profile.
The main symptom is very sluggish performance from 0 to 40 mph, especially in the morning on cold days. The car almost stalls until I can get it to 4000 rpm.
It also takes about 4 seconds to start the engine, which someone told me is not normal.
As you can see, I'm in over my head and I am way too busy at work to do anything about these things myself. I simply wish I could find a trustworthy mechanic.
Thanks guys!

I was really interested in cleaning my SSV... which I did today. It's a lot of fun... everyone should try it.

Anyone work on the car recently? How long have you had it? Flashing CEL? When were coils and plugs last replaced?
You have access like you work at a dealership and can do it there or you can get the cleaner? Is the Zoom cleaner aerosol? I read somewhere that the dealership used a spray aerosol and that was part of the reason it was more effective.

yes I work at a dealer and the zoom zoom cleaner is like an aerosol, the difference is it is injected into the housings separately, cleaning the ssv is effective if cleaned completely, usually when doing motor replacements if the customer doesn't want to purchase a new one I hand clean it with brass brush and the zoom zoom along with the each of the ports on the lower intake manifold and then stick both into our hot tank for bout 10mins. makes a world of difference.
I cleaned the UIM and LIM, and the SSV was disgusting. It was completely covered in sludge and I had to soak it in carb cleaner for a while to break it up. Man was it a pain in the *** to get to though...
I'm sure it's easier out of the car, but in the car you have to remove:
Air pump
Drain radiator
upper/lower thermostat housing
water pump pulley
alternator bracket
Upper intake manifold
battery and battery tray
Air intake
throttle body
main wire bundle from ECU
and a butt load of hoses...
Can I buy the zoom cleaner from you?

I guess I could, everyone in my household and neighborhood is use to me working in drive way making all types of commotion and smoke clouds, yes it does create smoke depending on how badly carb'd up the motor is.

yea man I had the work down by Mike, he did a pretty good job. I would hit hi up and see what he can do for you. As for PFS I tired them 10 or more times calling and emailing trying to have my car done their as Peter did my RX7's (back in 2003 time frame). I have heard nothing but bad reviews lately but Mike does talk to those guys (aka knows them) so maybe they are just over busy, however I got the impression if it is NOT a turbo with a rebuild etc they didn't have the time. Again just my experience I am not meaning to flame anyone as I do not really know the "NEW" PFS.
As for Mike he can be slow to get back to you he is 1 man however he is building a MUCH larger shop out back his garage is pretty impressive plus he also works/shares a shop in MT. Airy. I actually have to go have him look at my car soon I think it's the coils so I might have him build a coil pack but we will see. I have two other cars and a Motorcycle/house that all need something and the RX8 is the play car...
As for a CRUISE!! I AM IN!!!!!!!!!!!! Sept/Oct time frame works for me let me know in advanced I work 3rd shift (12 hours nights) and every other weekend so my time is a bit limited but I am down for it again I've not done a RX8 cruise in md. I did an Fbody a few years back and a RX7 run back in 06.

Zero11534 had a rebuild done by Unique Performance out in Mt. Airy and it sounded like he was pretty happy with it. From what I understand, the owner (Michael Quinn - moneymaker42141983) is pretty competent. I'm not sure if he does more basic repair type stuff, but you might want to contact him.

PS. Check out my pic's I have added them to my account for the people to see. If you do need a rebuild Mike lets you choose where you want to get your stuff from as long as it's a GOOD business.

I've had this engine light on for over a year since the last mechanic tried to figure it out (and failed). All he could reproduce is a P0456, which I read in another thread could be fixed with a PCM firmware upgrade.
If I reset the trouble codes myself, the check engine light will stay off for 10-14 days and then come back with a different set of codes.
Plugs and ignition wires were replaced in March 2011. They reprogrammed the PCM at the same time. I have no record of replacing the evaporation coils. They were cleaned though.
I'm the original owner of the car. I've had it since 2004 and have been taking good care of it. This gremlin is the only thing that really gives me trouble. I don't know, maybe I need an exorcist, not a mechanic.
Thanks!
