well first your gonna bring your helmet out Friday so I can get an idea of what size I need for the track. then itll all be track events, I may buy a little Mazda 2 when they come out for a DD and keep the 8 as a dedicated track car...

 

Between the first level of HP's race pads and a master cylinder brace, I'd think that's all you'd need with anything less than "R"-Compound tires. With HP Performance Ceramics and the Kumho Ecstas on the car now, I'm getting into the ABS easily at the end of VIR's front straight into Turn 1.

"R"-comps are NOT recommended for HPDE-1/2 or even -3. Learn the track and the car first, young Jedi. Street tires give up progressively and with a lot of fanfare, track compounds hang on right to the edge, and then step off a cliff.

Stainless lines are an excellent upgrade regardless. That will be the first upgrade along with getting this damned ignition problem ironed out. Bigger brake kit will be with sticky tires and the Pettit.

Just kidding... I'm buying another RX-8 for my wife. 2005 A/T... pictures when we actually get it. Not sure on the color yet, either BB, WWP, VR, or WB. I was going to make her learn how to drive a 6 spd, but she has never had a sports car before and will be focused on getting comfortable with the new car so she would be overwelmed trying to learn manual for the first time. She'll almost certainly have the car in time for the College Park meet, so she can join in the fun.

You know a car is special when 1 per family isn't enough.

in the long run I dunno if I'd be happy with an automatic, especially after driving a manual (or riding in one). You lose out on half of the good stuff about the wankel when you go auto....

I think to be happy with this car in the long run folks might as well learn to drive a manual first and then get an 8. It really isn't that hard to drive a stick at all. That's why it annoys me when I see people post "oh, and I can drive a stick" on their online profiles, as if it's some kind of icing to top off the litany of awesomeness they've just unloaded about themselves.
Sorry for the mini rant there, lol.

Anyway, I'm just saying, had I got an auto I'd probably always be kicking myself and saying "man, I should have just got a manual", especially when I'd be missing the extra power.

I totally agree for myself... and had insisted that she learn to drive manual before I bought her an RX-8. Then I got to thinking and realized that is how I view the car, but she is going from a Geo Prism to an RX-8 and she is not a "performance driver". She is going to go absolutely nuts just having her first nice car. I think having a manual transmission would actually take away from her enjoyment of the car because she would be so nervous about not breaking it and learning to shift, she wouldn't even want to drive it as much. I'm getting the car entirely for her enjoyment so for her the A/T is the better choice. She is so excited about this car... she is going to get it all clean and take it to the College Park event and park with all of us RX-8 owners. It's also funny because half my RL friends own RX-8s (peers at CanOfWorms) so we look like a damn cult when we hang out.

Worms, Vipre is looking for the car as we speak actually. If things go really well they will give a call today. They were able to give me a fantastic quote and I absolutely trust their judgement with finding a good car. I gave them basically an open hand on the color, she just didn't want GG, SS, or NG, but it could be any of the other colors, so we will see what it ends up being.

 

Make sure she gets a 6port auto at least

 

Why do people get so passionate about other people's transmissions?

See the truth is, when I went to the dealership to buy an Rx-8, they told me I wasn't cool enough for a manual and had to get an auto or nothing.

Give me a break. Find something a little more important to concern yourselves with. Yes, I infact CAN drive a manual, yes I could in fact could drive one before I bought an Rx-8, and yes, I infact CHOSE an automatic for reasons that I don't have to explain to anyone.

 

Heh, I prefer a manual over anything, under any condition...

That being said, I can not fault anyone that lives in a traffic hell-hole like DC that opts for an automatic Add in people that have foot/ankle/leg/hip problems for whom manual isn't an option...

I just ignore the tranny war.

Anyway.

I went to pick my car up today.

The tail light they replaced is so water logged, there's a little swimming pool collected at the bottom.

There is 1/8th of an inch of dust all over the interior, mounds and mounds collected in the corners of the dash.

The outside looks like they went mudding before calling me up to say it was done. And then had the nerve to write on the reciept "Your car was washed". Maybe, MAYBE they dumped a bucket of dirty water on it, but that's as much credit as I'll give them. Actually, one of the rear tires is covered in mud so maybe they did go mudding.

My front leather seat is scratched to hell.

There is a glop of (glue?!)... (it's clear and hard as hell)... globbed on the back bumper that they replaced.

The undercarriage, below the side quarter panel that was replaced, where it would ordinarily be black, has white spray paint all over it. While you can't see it while standing near the car, when you approach it you can see it.

It's the damndest thing really, I mean I know my accident was a month ago, but I'm PRETTY sure it didn't look anything like this BEFORE the accident.

OH and I had one black tail light and one clear tail light.

 

Um. Wow. Call your insurance company to file a complaint. State law guarantees the work, so you have plenty of leverage.

 

Oh I'm on it. But first I'm compiling a list of all these things (there's more) and taking pictures... to show my lawyer.

 

Holy crap. What are they smoking? I would have refused to accept the car because now they can say it was fine when it left.

I better get over to the shop where mine is and check up on it. Haven't heard from the guy in a week...

 

If they end up reimbursing you, and you need a new shop I got the perfect guy , and hes on RT1, not even five mins from the mall, PJs bapint and body.... Talk to Jerry and said Greg sent you he'll hook you up...

 

Best of luck Lauren... I was in the same situation when my car went to the shop after I had my wheels stolen. They did an unbelievably bad job on the car, lied about some of the stuff they didn't even do and I had to contest the work through my insurance company. Don't take it lying down, fight back and hopefully you get the car back in tip-top shape soon.

I definitely understand what you're saying, especially after hearing she was driving a prism. I can only imagine how awesome an the upgrade is going to feel. This is going to be like a night and day difference. And gratz on getting the wife an 8 at all. It would be sweet if my wife also had one :P
