Aschutz,
Check out this thread: https://www.rx8club.com/grand-am-experience-mazda-owners-137/2012-mazda-owners-corral-224199/page2/

The Mid-Ohio flyer isn't up yet, but it will give you a good idea. Basically, it includes general and paddock admission all weekend plus Maza only corral parking in the infield and parade laps at some point in the weekend. There is also usually a bunch of swag from the sponsors and other stuff as well.

I usually go up Friday and Saturday and sometimes we get a caravan going up if there are enough people interested.

It's a great time for sure!

aschutz,

I'm up for a caravan to Mid-Ohio. I see they posted the schedule on their site. I'll be going both Friday (another good excuse to take a day off from work!) and Saturday, of course.

I'll pm you my cell and we can work out details later, if you want.

Hey Kustus!

I have an '05 SIlver 8 - also live in Westerville and work on Polaris.

And to the rest of you, I took my car to Germain last night - brake lights were out plus ABS & DSC warning lights were on. Wiring harness shorted out, needs to be replaced. total cost around 340 all in. Guy seemed nice, they hired a rotary tech from Ricart to take care of the rX-8 customers.

He did tell me the brakes were at 3% and 1%, quoted me 350 for the rears and 420 for the fronts - you guys have a better/cheaper brake guy in town?

btw, i have 58K o nthe car-0 think that's about time for the brake pads to need replacement?

Seems pricey for brakes....hopefully that includes rotors as well? Considering the thickness of the brake pads, how the heck can they differentiate between 1%, 2%, 3%, etc....I've seen it quoted in increments of 10, but never in increments of 1%.

It does indeed seem pricey, you can buy new rotors and pads all around and install them yourself for about that (performance/drilled and slotted and hawk pads) if you go OEM, it would be much cheaper for all that. And cheaper yet if it's just pads and rotors are in good shape.

Ditto on the pricey brakes. Mine have devloped and awful warp. When I can find some time, I'll try to re-bed them and see what happens.

If you're brakes were that low they should be giving off a very noticeable sound to warn you. And as other's mentioned that's pretty costly. I got a full set of slotted rotors and hawk pads for ~500 if I remember correctly. That was installing them myself though.

I would like to go to mid-ohio, having a hard time committing that whole weekend though.

Thanks, guys! Those prices were just for pads & installation. He said the rotors were fine. Was thinking of going to rx-7 store for the hawk pads. Are those the best ones? Some YouTube videos showing they are very noisy - but that may be a bad DIY job. Wish I could DIY - honestly not handy at all. My dad was kind of a jerk when it came to teaching me stuff. Now it's costing me - literally and figuratively!

RX-ayt, you just need to find some friends around there to show you how its done, brakes are very simple to work on. if you have few hours on a spare day its easy to do even if its a first time. if you have help, even better. a dealer around here wanted to charge our neighbor~800 for barkes and rotors. they ended up doing it themselves and saved a chunk of cash. total in parts (and tools they needed to do it) was about $250. also the hawk hps arent noisy, the hp+ are, and should be used for track day use over street use. the hps are fine for street, they are what is on my car now.

As Kustus said, the normal hawk pads aren't noisy at all. I bought them because my OEM pads (as well as the first set of cheap replacements I tried) were screeching badly. Haven't had any noise issues since I put the hawk pads on.

And front brakes are literally just unbolting, replacing the pad, and tightening it back up. If I remember correctly you have a do something a little more complicated with the rears due to the e-brake, I'm sure there is a DIY on this site for it though. If you have a garage/driveway to do it in and a little free time I would not pay a mechanic to do it.

I'd go but I have to work. Monday I will likely be doing a radiator flush and fill along with changing the ignition components out

I might be down to meet up with you guys... Have a pretty full up weekend of family stuff but myself, my wife, and a couple of friends wanted to go up and at least watch practice/qualifying. Aschutz, I think I have an email from you somewhere in my inbox... I'll try and dig it up.

I saw that same one cruise through downtown on Friday and it's not one I've ever seen before either. Not me though. Mine is a red GT, looks all stock and has a BHR sticker on the windshield. Where was the car show going on at? I saw some classics cruising but I didn't even know there was a gathering.

How was Mid-Ohio? Kind of disappointed I didn't get to go again, but I just couldn't find the time.

Mid-Ohio was awesome, as usual. Always a great place to go and relax.

Can somebody point me to a good bodywork place? Somebody backed into my daughter's Hyundai Sonata last night. I used to go to True Performance, but the last I knew, the good people had left there and the quality has slipped dramatically.

Prefereably something on the NW side, or Marysville.

Shop Recommendations?

Sorry to hijack a little, but I want to take my 8 in for some work that I'm not able to resolve myself...

My driver front cushion seems to be coming loose, theres a squeak somewhere inside my dash behind the head unit, and I have some strange vibrations/noise in the 40mph range despite a verified alignment and balance.
Plus I have no idea what ECM flash I have...

Anyone have any good shop recommendations for the above?
Thanks in advance

Hope all is well, guys!

I have a gently used set of Yokohama W. Drive winter tires for sale if you're interested. These tires have less than 2,000 miles on them. PM me if you're interested.

Drove past the Wendy's at the intersection of Polaris / Maxtown / Rt 3 yesterday about 11:30am. I caught a quick glimpse of a handful of some pretty exotic cars in the parking lot there...Ford GT, Lamborghini, Ferrari. Parked at the end of the line was a Ti Gray RX8.....anybody on here? I wanted to stop and take a look, but I was in the minivan on my way to an afternoon of kids soccer games.

Thanks, I sent you an email in case you didn't have mine. Funny you mention washing your car....I saw you there too. Just before I took the kids to soccer, I was grocery shopping at Kroger, and saw you drying your RX8 at the car wash on my way home. I live in the neighborhood just behind there (by Central HS).
