its in the manual.
Engine off
Pump the gas a few times, then
start the car while depressing the gas slightly.

i tried that though and it didnt work for me. problem is when you do it and its flooded real good, you will probably crank the engine many many times, which will end up killing your battery. so one thing to do is jump the car as you are doing it.

what I actually did (via my brother's advice - he has an FD)
Pull the fuse for the fuel pump
Jump The Car
Pump the gas pedal a few times, and then try to start the car.

Worked for me. Just watch out, a ploom of black smoke will come out the exhaust from the unburned gasoline.

keep the money and buy more gas, or get new roommates.

i actually havent looked at the manual to deflood it...ive always searched the forums, maybe i'll take a look at it tomorrow morning

ive done the hold the pedal down for 7-8 seconds while starting up, then waiting about 20 seconds, and then try starting it again...but doesn't work

ive also done the trick where you remove the fuel pump fuse or whatever and try starting it that way and once again to no avail

i think i'll give this one a shot:
http://www.rx8web.com/forum/showthread.php?p=162360

kind of similar to devoid's DIY using windshield washer fluid

i dunno, i need to get this fixed soon because i have to work friday night after class (and really, really don't feel like taking it to byer's mazda or mazda direct again)

i dont really trust those guys at mazda direct, i always feel like they're not telling me something

oh yeah, i had a new starter put in for about $500 from byer's back in january...they highly recommended it and said it would do a better job of starting the car if flooded...well, it doesn't seem like the case

i have a relatively new battery and spark plugs (october 07)...so i dont think its time to replace?????

one last thing, kinda relatively new owner (bought it may 07)...are there any warranties/recalls i should know about? i bought it with 41k miles, its now at 56k...the car was leased for 3 years prior to me buying it and ive asked mazda direct about any recalls and warranty stuff, and they said there's been none...only the factory warranty until 50k and the powertrain one that goes up to 60k

when you tried to start the car, is it still turning, or does it sound like the battery is dead now? doesnt matter how new the battery I would think. Anyway, really, try the jumping the car while doing it.

As for recalls, if there was a recall, i had it done. not sure if I noticed any differnces with any of them.

side note, anyway take off the snow tires yet? I think its that time for me. Will do tomorrow.

if im not playing golf i might be down. summer rubber went on tuesday!

kcott, that starter should have been free. it wasnt a recall, but there was a tsb i believe that they should have replaced the starter, plugs and battery if your car had flooded and/or you lived in cold weather areas. id raise hell, byers service is horrible

The long range forecast says a high of 47 with rain/snow showers and a 14 mph wind.

You're on your own!

Weather men can barely tell you what is going to happen 5 minutes from now not alone a week from now. Stay positive Jeffrey! Yesterday would have been great for all of us to get together but I had soo much to catch up on being the first great day of the year. Detailed two cars, neither of which were the 8 and ran errands for the first time that didn't require me getting wet or wearing a coat!

call him, i dont think he checks the forum that often. 771.8966. the store is off of roberts road. head east off the exit, take a right just after the light. itll wrap back around, and its off the side street on the right. the street kinda ends, but doesnt really and youll see some buildings on the left. head in that parking lot, the shop is behind those buildings back in the gravel area

As Brian previously stated, that starter should have probably been replaced for free under the TSB, though if you were already past the 3 year bumper-to-bumper, they probably took that as an "out" and decided to put the screws to you. I'd check with them on it though...might be able to get a refund, but knowing dealers, they'll probably tell you to **** off. To me, the fact they highly recommended it and stated it would do a better job of starting the car when flooded indicates that they KNEW about the TSB and screwed you anyway. Bastages...I'll be staying away from Byers.

If the dealer told you that there have been no recalls, that might be technically true, but there still may be some work to be done. To begin, last year Mazda released not so much a recall, but a request for all cars to be taken in to determine if there are compression problems. In addition, there have been a number of reflashes released for the engine computer. I'd request to have the car checked for the compression issue...some folks have had engine replacements due to compression test failures. Also, the flashes that have been released have included some updates to the oil-metering pump, which injects oil into the rotor housings. Apparently they have had their flow increased in order to stave off seal failures on the rotors, so I'd make sure you have the most current flash too.

Check out this link: http://www.finishlineperformance.com....php?pageid=11 It lists all TSBs released for the RX-8...good reading!

Also local guys...does anyone know of any local shops that do wheel repair/refinishing for a reasonable price?

Hey everyone, I'm looking to get a used 2004 RX-8. Can anyone suggest a reputable mechanic in the Columbus area to check out the car before I buy it? Preferably someone who knows rotaries?

Thanks!

Yeah I had thought about that but wasn't sure if they just did mods or also general repair work.

Thanks!

True Performance would be my choice for paint. I'm not sure if they do bras, but I imagine they would for a price.

I contacted True Performance and Rife's Auto Body about the work I need done.

TP is out in Plain City pretty far away and they use 3M Clear Bra. Rife's is in Westerville whichis a lot closer and they use Venture Clear Bra.

From what I have read is that the Venture product is nicer and a better product than the 3M product. So, based on that and the location I'm leaning towards Rife's.

Any opinions on which is better 3M or Venture? Also, have any of you had experience with Rife's? I have a fried who had is RSX repaired at Rife's and swears by them, but in my opinon my 8 is on a whole other level than his RSX. I just want it done right.

Please chime in ASAP...I have to fax my Ins estimate Monday.

Thanks Fellas!!

I'm hungry - who's up for a meet? I'm out of town next weekend, but the following one looks good (May 17-18). I'm open to ideas - maybe lunch Saturday or Sunday. Someplace tried & true or someplace new? Let's hear some suggestions. Maybe if we plan enough we can get as many people as possible.
