Anyone with an Axial Flow SS around here?
I have seen Axial Flow short shifter as a common suggested modification. I have bad shifted (grinded gears) once and missed a shift (ended up in neutral) a few times so I'm interested. I only got the car recently so part of it is learning the new gear box. I've read the Axial Flow thread and some say it's noisy but most all say the gear shift is very decisive and "bolt like". If someone has one of these in the area I would appreciate a chance to have a quick first hand look at it, even with the car parked.
I work at WPI (01609) but am willing to go on a nice drive to you.
Thanks!

If you are grinding on the stock shifter, chances are you need to learn to drive stick or you have bad synchros in your tranny because the stock shifter is great. That said, yes, a **** load of people have the AFE SS and love it. It will cause some noise.
For me, I have driven a few 8's with it and I don't see what all the hype is about but those who have it, love it. Maybe I am just a weirdo but my Voo Doo **** on the stock shifter has been great for 120,000 miles.

The people who have it DO love it, so I want to check it out for my self. Since you're in Texas I don't suppose you are a candidate, huh?
If you read the Axial Flow thread you'll see a number of people complain that they sometimes miss or grind specifically from 1st to 2nd during an aggressive shift, which is also where it happened to me. I've been driving stick for 11 years. I thoroughly enjoy the rx8 stock shifter but can imagine that improvements are possible.
Still lookin for an AF/SS buddy...

It is a very popular item, it won't be hard to find someone to let you try it out. Try sending a PM to Altspace (www.altspace.com), he is up your way I think and could probably help you out.

Very funny :-p but i'll bet the AF people also saw potential improvements which is why they made the SS. The griding part was just going for speed without having gotten properly acquainted with the gearbox. Shorter, more confident throw is the real benefit.
I think i'll let this thread linger a little bit and see if there's any good samaritans willing to volunteer. If not, then I'll bug your buddy about it. Thanks for the referral!
