Just been busy with work as of late.
Thinking about pulling the motor for a rebuild, but I might wait for next winter when I (hopefully) have my own garage to work in.
When it gets warmer, I'll throw my compression tester on the 8 to see its health.
I've stepped away from the "car scene" and even this forum (mainly because of the childish BS) and its honestly been great.
I'm now into photography and shoot with a Nikon D3200 DSLR.
I have an 18-55mm, 55-300mm telephoto, and a 35mm f/1.8 Nikkor lenses.
Just started playing with an SB-700 Speedlight for bounce flashing and a remote release cord for long exposure shots.
Cameras can be an expensive hobby (mainly the lenses) so I'm still weighing if this is just another temporary hobby or not.
I tend to find something new every couple years to try and learn from.

Good to hear from you, Jon. I feel you about the car scene. I havan't turned a wrench other than work that needs to be done in like 6 months, much less dropped any $$ on the car. (the s2000 anyway)
Kristen and I bought a house so I had to downsize the garage from my shop to a two car. Its more tight than I'm used to. But now its on to housing stuff, not to mention writing that larger monthly check.
If you're looking for houses, I got this Dept. of Agriculture loan that allowed me to buy a house with zero money down and a fixed rate of 3%. Pretty sweet. But there are restrictions on where the house can be.

I've bought a couple of cars there (not my 8) and go there for service from time to time. What do you want to know?

I'm still working night shifts and very rarely switch from that, and I'm not that curious to flip-flop my schedule for it.
I figure when I get my own garage, then I can tear it down during the night and not worry about bothering anyone.
I'll be sure to take pics and let you know when I do.
I'll likely be focusing my time (and finances) on the H2 this year before next winter.
I've already complied a list of things to do.
Not much more I can do with the RX8, though I'll probably look into a series 2 tranny conversion next winter.

Awesome camera Jon! Can't beat a Nikon for quality. Canon just can't touch them. My parents have a photography business they been doing since 1991. They only use Nikons. It's an awesome hobby as well. I helped my dad build a dark room in his and mom's basement. B&W photography is a lost art anymore (that doesn't mean desaturating your pics in photoshop). LOL
Steve, where'd you buy the house. i remember you talking about it. Oh... and when's the wedding?
My 8's been in the garage since Dec 1. Not getting it out until we get some good rain to wash away the road salt. Prob April 1. My tires are in dire need of replacing though.
Mac, for a battery recommendation, i have a yellow top Optima for my 8. It's currently in the basement since the car is stored (no it's not on the floor, for anyone about to panic and ask). Red top's work as well but i went to three different places (Advanced, AutoZone, Summit Racing) and none had the red top that would work in the 8. Terminals weren't set right.

Both my Optima Red Top batteries for my RX8 were picked-up at Summit Racing.
They were just a regular 35 group battery (not 35R) and it fit just fine.
Yulia has one now in her Mazda3 because she needed the CCA in the winter.
There were times her car wouldn't start when the temps were in the single digits, but its worked perfectly since the Red Top was installed.

I put an optima red top in mine before winter started. It's ridiculousl how much better they are. My car barely cranks before it fires up. And that's sitting for days on end in freezing temperatures.

Hey guys I think my alternator is going bad but wanted some help trouble shooting. Here is why i suspect the alternator. Car has a dead battery. I hook it up to my truck and it turns over right away and starts right up. I drive it around and get some weird issues. When the headlights are on and i put in reverse I lose Power steering and the abs lights come on. As well as the stereo turns off and then restarts. Then when I turn it off and it deader then dead. Just took the original 8 year old batter out and replaced it because I thought that would be the problem. But i'm still having the issues. Any other things I should look at or suspect besides the alternator?

So i took my 05 in to Preston in boardman, they also sent me a letter about purchasing my 8. They did compression check and found i'm in the low to mid 5s on all faces at 215rpm: failing. so now I'm looking at a rebuild and no dealer's want to buy a car that needs work so in the very near future I will be undertaking a complete rebuild of my renny provided the housings and rotors are reusable. If anyone wants to lend a hand or just check out the progress i will let you know when I start and how things go. Right now I'm doing tons of research and collecting on favors people owe me gathering the large amount of money involved. If anyone has advice to share please do.

They said no and I'm not gonna argue to get a reman that may or may not be any good. I'll do it myself and it will be done right without taking 4 months and I can do some mild porting and polishing while I'm at it.
So far I have another list started of things to change at the same time:
Engine mounts
Clutch
BHR Lightweight flywheel and counterweight
Midpipe
Header
Belts
Hoses
and that fuel line that isn't supposed to be reused
I have been gathering the necessary supplies to fix the rust:
Paint 29y from Mazda
Primer urethane
Sand paper
Clear-coat
Polishing compound
plastic filler
and for those couple of dents a hammer and dolly set.
Feel free to comment.

I'm interested in your comment that said you don't want a reman engine... so are you going to try to source a new engine? To me, re-manufactured means old engine torn apart, faulty parts replaced (apex and side seals) and put back together.
So my question is where are you going to get a brand new engine?

I should have been more specific. I don't want a Mazda made reman. I will do it myself to i can set all the tolerances correctly and make sure its done right. No DOA for me. That is assuming the rotors and housings don't need replaced. If that's the case I'll be in for too much $ and will probably just part it out. I'm not putting more than half the price of the car into the renesis. One step at a time though, it still drives so i'm just going to keep saving and planing.

ok, who owns a winning blue? tailed one this evening on 77s, near CAK. it is FILTHY!!! Shame on you. today was a beautiful day to wash that thing. you better be on your way home to give that thing a sponge bath and love.
Saw a new owner at Lccc today. Titanium grey, black rims. 30day tags. Anyone new here? Haha
On a side note. The starter, is the top bolt a through bolt? When I take it off does is just slide out? Can't find anything online. The nut is stripped beyond belief and I really want to get this r3 starter on. Just weighing my options first.
