Yes, we do get together periodically.
If you are interested, there is a NASA track event next weekend at MidOhio. Details are at https://www.nasaproracing.com/event/1170
You can joijn NASA for free with the card I've attached
Awesome ty
is it a race of some sort or can anyone go on the track? I went to the site but I couldn't make much of it lol. I'm a truck driver so I look at everything on my phone lol. Track layout seems exactly what I'm looking for though. I'm originally from Europe and am a huge formula 1 Fan so I'm glad there's tracks like that here. But before I take my car to the track I want to swap out my coils plugs and wires. And I was reading people switch their diff and gearbox fluid too? I think redline is the brand I saw mentioned? Anyway thanks for the heads up on the mid Ohio event and if I have time I'll definitely be there.

Hey blazenblue63, if you need any advise or assistance with the car, our local scene has done just about everything with the RX8.
Plus... we're a lot more tolerant of "newbie" questions here

Lmao yeah I noticed reading the mainstream threads that if you didn't get a mit degree in rx-8 maintenance you get torn a new exhaust hole pretty quick :P I'm not really looking to mod my 8 power wise since unless you Turbo it the gains are so small and in some cases even negative. I do want to switch out the coils and plugs and wires since it's time mileage wise. Read a couple good DIY threads on that. I'm just curious about switching out tranny and diff fluids. Redline a lot better than what Mazda put in? I might put a different cat in since that's all pure gain but is there any trouble with sensors doing that?
P.S. thanks for the warm welcome. If I get to meet some of you guys at a rx-8 meet first round is on me :P

Looks like you did your homework on the 8... good job!
Coils and plugs are easy... just remember the anti-seize and dielectric grease.
Popular oil is Redline (MT-90 for the trans and 75w90 for the diff).
If you install a mid-pipe, you'll get a CEL since the cat was removed.
Only way to disable is the use of a Cobb AccessPORT (used for tuning).
If you feel like driving up to Streetsboro, we can do everything at my place.

Sounds like a plan
I have the plugs and coils ordered through advanced autoparts but they didn't have wires so I guess I'll swing by Mazda to pick em up.
How much of the tranny and diff fluid would I need to buy?

Hey Doc, how was VIR? I read that you guys had some pretty good weather aside from some morning showers. I'm anxious to hear your impressions of the new and improved Red Racer.
Welcome, Blazen! If you're interested in getting your car on the track the very first thing you're going to want to do may be to get some upgraded brake pads installed, especially if you're going to do HPDE. If you just want to do a Hyperdrive to get a taste of the track you really don't need to do anything to the car. In addition to Mid Ohio, which is really a top tier track (Grand Am, Indy, and American Le Mans all race there), you should check out BeaveRun just over the border in PA. Great place to learn because it has lots of run off if you make mistakes, and I think the layout plays to the strengths of low torque cars like the 8.
Guys, we should get together some time soon before John abandons us and heads for the mountains . . .

Car ran well. Only issue was driver door popping open once.
Accomplished my goals which was cool! Car checked. Driver rust shaken off.
We didn't run Sunday. It was raining and I didn't want to risk it since we were going to leave after the first session anyways.
Unfortunately, there was another RX8 there that got totaled. They hauled the driver off in the ambulance, I don't know any details. Just a yard sale in the middle of the track. Seemed like there were an awful lot of wrecks.
I agree, let's get together before they ban John from the state.

In case anyone has missed it on FB, here's a pic of Eric Meyer's car from Saturday in Florida:

beaverun sounds like a good place to start and learn the limits of my car (and my own) before going onto mid Ohio. Hyperdrive sounds exactly like my cup of tea. Lol.

Welcome to the club BlazenBlue.
I was thinking about getting together with a bunch of people on 4/16 to go bowling. Haven't picked a place or time yet but that was what I was thinking.

Lmao snow doesn't do it for ya?
I was going to do it on Saturday if the weather is nice enough. The coils and plugs are in just need a set of wires and the redline. Going to get that Saturday morning. Already have the antiseize and dielectric grease. Lemme know Saturday if you feel like it and I'll come up.

Saturday is calling for light snow and 42 degrees.
If you really want to do it so soon, we can... at least the transmission will cool down quicker...
But getting on the wet cold pavement would probably suck.

In the morning would be best for me. 9:30ish?
I broke down and bought a hand pump, so in theory we would change the fluid the "right" way.
I'll make sure to bring the engine block also.

OK... 9:30 it is...
Could you PM us your home address (I don't think I programmed it into my TomTom last time).
+1
We also get the spark plugs there too.
If we weren't meeting so early in the morning, I would pick up the oil for you on my way down so you didn't have to drive up to Tallmadge.
