Well if you are going to spin it you might as well push the right and left sides of the wheel, and then the top and bottom of the wheel, to see if it wiggles.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions guys. It ended up being the catch can. It wiggled itself semi loose and was rubbing on some little metal pipe to who knows what. The can is actually pretty scuffed up in that section. I'm going to go buy a longer hose and try installing it farther away from things it could rub against. I just took the catch can out for now. No noise whatsover and I tried as best I could to recreate it. Still strange that it only happened at certain RPMS must be harmonics or something with how the engine vibrates.

Again thanks John and Jon. It's great to know there is so much good support from you guys willing to help me out.

BTW: Jon any luck with your truck?

Yeah... took a stethoscope around the engine and on top of each coil pack and the sound doesn't appear to be coming from within.
Revving the engine from outside I could hear the noise faintly from the passenger-side wheel well.
Looked at the exhaust manifold, I could easily see at least one nut missing/broken and I believe I could even see the gasket (very limited space to see and the motor was still running/hot to reach in).
Its likely the sound is coming from here and since its not something critical, I'll just wait for the weather to get warmer before I tackle this.
But the truck still performs great with no noticeable lack of power.

I've got good news and bad news...bad news is that when I went to give my car its weekly winter drive around the block I noticed a slight issue (pictured below) good news is that I recently bought an AP dual res midpipe and have yet to install it. Now I need to locate a solution for my two year check up by may 1, 2012...but apparently the world is going to end on the 21st so maybe I wont even bother appearing legal for that emissions test

I don't know... I might chalk that under "bad news" ... or bad news for the neighbors
Still cheaper than a cat though.

I would agree with you except my beater (1996 ford probe) is much more noisy but in a shitty car kinda way...the rotary sounds good at least

No warranty eh? You could always borrow a cat from a local for your test. Then again...they don't test exhaust output anymore...so you might pass with it on.

No warranty unless they consider a cat part of the "engine"...as for the test they would probably look for a cat with their little mirrors when they heard the exhaust note from a stock looking exhaust I'm sure

Warranty on the cat is 8 years...80K miles. Your failing cat though can be put on for the test. It passes physical inspection.

They did...sorta. It's free and they verify that you have a gas cap that holds pressure, have something that looks like a cat installed and verify you have no CEL's via OBD.

The Probe is registered in Cincinnati, at the house i lived in while in college (three years ago) because they do not have e-checks there and I can't get rid of my CEL. They haven't caught me yet...

I know a thing or two about ruining RX8s... and that thing is ruined!

Just kidding, Doc. It looks like its coming along very nicely. I know the cut out in the driver door is for the "nascar" bars... but why did they cut out the rear door?

Lastly, you may get protested in STX this year just a little.

Congrats though, its looking great. When is your first track day scheduled?

As some of you heard at the last meet there was a chance that I would be moving to Colorado Springs to pursue some opportunities here at Progressive, but they were hung up in some red tape. With mixed emotions I am here to let you know that the red tape has been cut through and my promotion was approved on Christmas. At this time we don't have a final timeline for when I will be moving, but I am aiming for Spring (April/May) timetable at this time. With my visits to Colorado to go house hunting not planned yet, I wanted to try and plan at least two different get togethers with you guys.

Firs tand foremost, Congrats! That's awesome! I spent about 3 months CO for work and would move there in a heartbeat given the chance.

I'd be up for a get together (or two) before you leave. My 8's happily hibernating. Picked up a CR-V for every day/winter/bad weather driving.

Congrats on the Colorado promotion.

I'd like to see you before you go John, any potential locations or days?
