After about a week the material in the resonators finally melts/burns away and the midpipe gets really really raspy. And Brian did only pay $150 for the AP dual resonated midpipe new as I sold it to him. Deal at the time was $550 for the AP exhauast shipped and $700 if you wanted it with the midpipe. I said if anyone wanted it they could just pay the difference and have it.

LOL... I have about a dozen PMs going back and forth with him.
Lets just say we didn't get anywhere on that discussion and I sometimes questioned if we were even on the same page

I plan on cutting one of my old OEM coils to see how the inside is "wired".
It appears that on one side you are testing the ignitor and the other is the coil based on the readings, but having a visually would definitely be nice.

Fwiw...

BHR coils are on the car. While I was in there I cleaned the MAFS too. No more shaky idle. The car runs smooth as silk now.

But man are they are bitch to get into place.

That's a serious understatement. You can see why the Steve Tool™ might need to be pulled into service.

Glad the car runs perty now. And if you ever get an engine management tool you can tune it with a better dwell setting and REALLY get some value out of them.

With me... when it rains, it pours.
Some of you know that my lawn mower has hated me this year, or this house is cursed since I've had nothing but bad luck since moving in.

So just within the past few months:
I had to replace the gasket for the carburetor. Then after mowing the grass once the mower wouldn't start.
The coil was constantly being shorted to ground (which prevents the spark plug from firing).
I cut the ground wire and installed a rocker switch inline so I could shut the motor off with the switch (no need for the stop bar anymore).
I had some smoke from oil that settled on the block from constantly tearing the motor apart troubleshooting.
So I cleaned it off with carb cleaner the best I could reach without tearing it apart again.

A few days ago I was mowing the grass and there was a tiny bit of smoke.
I figured it was just oil I couldn't reach while cleaning the block.
I heard a slight chatter under heavy load, but figured that maybe too much grass was underneath or the blade was slight loose and would just look into it afterward.
I had one more strip of grass left when a large "CLANK" sound followed by a "POP" stopped me (of course the engine died).

This is what I found:
Akron/Cleveland 8 Owners.-lawn-mower-1.jpg Akron/Cleveland 8 Owners.-lawn-mower-3.jpg Akron/Cleveland 8 Owners.-lawn-mower-4.jpg Akron/Cleveland 8 Owners.-lawn-mower-8.jpg Akron/Cleveland 8 Owners.-lawn-mower-9.jpg

You are looking at two giant holes on opposite sides of the block!
Part of the camshaft came out of one side, not sure yet what created the other hole.
I plan on tearing it apart to see what happened (probably not soon).
I'm just thankful one of those fragments didn't fly back towards my legs!

Well.. I did just mention that when it rains, it pours with me...

I get home from work to see that one of my truck tires were flat.
I just had the truck out a couple days prior so I figured that it was something I hit along the way.
I bought the tires from Sears and got their warranty, so I took it up there.
It didn't take long for them to call me into the garage and tell me that the tire isn't repairable.
They showed me the tire and it had a nice clean cut on the side, punctured all the way through.
I knew right away that the tire was slashed. Lucky for me the tire warranty covers the purchase of a new tire....

So they go to their computer and try to find another tire, but find out my tire was discontinued just months after purchasing it.
Only thing they had was the next model up and I would have to pay the price difference AND buy another tire warranty since its a different tire.
One of the techs knows me well (he loves my RX8) so he managed to "work the system" go cut the price in half for me.

So needless to say as soon as I came home, I installed the new tire and took the truck to my father's.
I can't wait to get out of here!

That's putting it mildly. Sucks, Jon.

Do you have a date you expect to be out? And the bigger question . . . is Doc going to help you move your oven?

Congrats Docgator

Congrats Docgator. It was nice to meet you down at Mid-Ohio also.
I did not get your email address, and have not been able to stop at your shop either. Timing for work.

Sorry for the crappy pass going into #1. I came in too hot and needed to scrub more speed than I thought. Was in the wrong gear coming out. Oh well.

Are you headed back to Mi-Ohio on Sep. 4?

No crappy pass. I burned up my cat and couldn't go past 4K rpm in the fourth session. I just came off the track when I realized what happened.

Stop by anytime.

What's Sept 4th?

Everyone have fun at the track+Autocross???

Jon - how does your schedule look this weekend? Sorry to hear about your truck. Damn homies and their lack of respect! I feel you on getting out of there. I can see if I can use the 15' trailer to help you move so you save money on the U-Haul if you're not going to be out of there for another couple weeks.

Ryan - totally forgot about the check with all the crap going on this weekend. Looked at my account and was like, WTF did I write a check for??? It was funny. Haven't had time to really mess with the shocks much, but they're working just fine. Let me know when you want to do pads/engine cover.

Anyone want to try to get another meet together?

No never been to Watkins Glen. I'd like to though. Didn't know about the SCCA event. But not likely to go to that. Thanks for the link.

Do you have any other info for registering??

Short Shifter "Notchy"

RK:

I saw in a previous thread that you mentioned lubricating the short shifter. What did you use to greese it with? I too have one, and need to get it to operate smoother.

If I remember right it is tranny fluid.

You just want some bearing or chassis grease although I used some multi-purpose grease I had lying around. Don't go overboard with it but just give a nice coating on most of the ball bearing and the surrounding contact parts with your finger and you should see some instant improvement.

Careful when you do it tho because if you go out to the track right after you lube it up you'll probably miss a few gears. Oh and make sure the car is cool. Tranny really heats up the metal parts around the shifter.

If you have tranny fluid around you can use it but it doesn't stay as long as grease. Newton tends to work his magic on fluid more effectively than grease.

Grease Lube or otherwise...it's still chunky. Might just be fluid time.
