I've read a loss of "road feel" but better grip obviously but I trust u guys more... any feedback is appreciated. Seems the SPT's are pretty popular...
I'd recommend 245s especially for the track. While the car runs fine on 225s that extra 20 is going to reduce your chance of wheel spin. My comps are 245/40/18s on stock wheels and I've got no complaints.

As for types of rubber I'm happy with my Coopers but their 275s on lighter wheels so it's hard to compare those with 245s or 225s on stockers. I probably wouldn't go with those if I didn't have a dedicated set of track tires but they have handled just fine when I took them out at Midohio and Nelsons. Brian just got RE01R's so he'll be able to let you now how those are working out once he puts 'em on (if he hasn't already).

Rex: if you're looking to do a track tire/wheel and a daily driver tire on OEM wheels, I got the bargain-bin general exclaims from tirerack. I can't so much for how they're holding up because I only used them a couple months before going to snows... but they're an improvement over the stock bridgestones and the price is right for all the highway miles I do.

Open for anyone else: A small brake gasket on my motorcycle sort of disintegrated when I was putting new pads on a few months back. I have had no luck at all finding any gasket specialist or anything of the sort (its small, about the size of a rubber band used for kids with braces: 1cm O.D. maybe) Any ideas on where else I can look?

Hey Guys,

Any one interested in making a couple bucks replacing my brakes and rotors in the next couple weeks? I am pretty strapped for cash lately so I am trying to cut costs when ever possible (hence the "slightly used" rotors I purchased from Highway8). If you are interested, please shoot me a PM. I'm in West Akron / Fairlawn.

I'm sure you'll get people who'll do it for a couple beers.
I'm pretty booked this weekend, but I'm sure someone will chime in and assist.
If not, we can do it the following week.

BTW... where do you live in West Akron/Fairlawn?
I live in North-West Akron near Cascade Valley Park

I'd be happy to help out. I change pads all the time but haven't had the pleasure of changing the front rotors yet (rears just slide right off). What year is your 8, how many miles, and do you drive it in the winter?

I'm over in Fairlawn pretty much every weekend and I could probably spare a couple hours on saturday or Sunday.

Hmm, when my rears "slid" off, they required alot of heat, and a few dozen blows from a large mallet... Not to mention the screws on the front rotors had to be heated also... so, Ryan, take your torch. But, I realize my car refuses to make things easy.

lol Steve. I think your car sees people approach and instantly clenches up like a guy going to his first proctologist visit.

Yeah... anything that should be easily removed is rusted or otherwise seized. Then, anything that shouldn't move rattles like a BB in a tin can.

I still can't get over how the car wouldn't stay running after the brake job and we all thought battery or PCM and it was that stupid SSV. . . *sigh*

I need to pull apart the intake again this spring and clean it again to ensure its still ok. Probably should seafoam again too. My car is "special needs."

Thanks Jon316G and RK.

I'm in a development off of SandRun, close to Market St. It doesn't have to be done at my place. I can drive anywhere in the Akron, Canton, Cle area if its easier to do the job at your place. I might not have all the necessary tools.

The rotors shipped yesterday from CA, so they won't be here until mid next week at the earliest. Weekends anytime, or nights after 6:00pm work best. I have a well lit garage with enough space if it gets dark.

While "a couple beers" is a nice gesture, who ever does the job is getting cash + beers if they want them. I'm a complete stranger to the forum, so I don't expect "handouts".

2004 / ~47k / yes - driven in the winter /

Much Appreciated,
Nate

Nate - you own an RX8 - so, we know you enough.

I hope you didn't pay too much for the rotors... I have freshly turned OEM rotors sitting in the machine shop I work at that I probably won't ever use because I have drilled+slotted rotors now.
I may have asked for a little $, but I bet it would be less than your shipping costs...

Welcome to the local group - I say always ask here before venturing out into the greater forum.

i know the area you're in very well Nate. welcome to the local chapter! I used to live near there but am down close to Vyn now, being in the massillon area.

We typically do get togethers about once a month. I've missed a couple lately but will be around for any coming up barring no insanity like the last time when the clothes washer broke down mid-cycle.

Anything planned for the next get together?

ROFL. Like i said, its in the trunk just waiting for a new home.

Boneyard, eh? great... maybe i'll get lucky and run into the ex's ex-husband (long story short, i convinced her to leave him. that's a common hang out for him though)

Is there a set time? Figuring show up around 7ish, yes?

Say a day, assuming my car is done (which COULD happen) I'd be glad to help out.

Speaking of my car, just an update for everyone. I got a front o2 sensor for a REALLY good price. Hopefully it will be here tomorrow. Assuming it is, All I need to do is splice some wires to the emanage, install the sensor, and put my dash back together and I should be able to leak test.

Akron/Cleveland 8 Owners.-locknut-torque-spec.jpg
And its not a torque wrench, so no "CLICK".
Everything I've learned about cars has been pretty old school, so torque specs were hardly used.
Usually it was, "hand tighten, then another 1/2 - 3/4 turn!"

Only time I would really worry about torque specs is while rebuilding an engine.
That is something you want to really pay attention to and get right.
With everything I've done/taken apart in my car, it has yet to see a torque wrench.
