Are kids the ones where you have to water them and make sure they get sunlight? Or the ones that need to be walked a few times per day and hit with a newspaper if they have an accident?

J/K - Congrats!

They're also the ones who convince you to put them on your cell phone account for a mere $10/mo and then run up $400 in texting charges . . .

I can't tell you how many times I've heard that story. Texting, games, etc. My buddy Joe's nephew did the same thing with online games. "I didn't know they charged..............."

Congrats! That's got to be exciting and terrifying at the same time.

I don't have any children yet, so I've got no advice to give like others around here. Someday I'm sure I'll take the plunge (no pun intended) and sign on the 18+ year dotted line. Practicing the 'manufacturing' part for now is fun tho.....

Thanks to all for the kind words regarding my newly acquired 'detail mark'. I'm going to wash and wax the car tomorrow, so I gues I'll find out tomorrow if I can buff it out. Damn kids.

On another note, I swapped out my trans fluid last night. I had a difficult time getting the new fluid in. I ended up buying a small pump canister that took absolutely forever to use. One thing I'm confused about though: I read that the capacity of the manual trans is around 1.8qt. I used 2qts and it still was not coming out of the fill hole. I had the car on four jack stands as close to level by eye as possible. WTF is going on?? Am I missing something?

Apparantly it lies. I used the same amount as John when I did my swap and it sounds like it's the same amount you used.

Even though I put two quarts in there it's still not coming out of the fill hole which leads me to think it needs more. I put my finger in there and its not far off. I hate to drive all the way back down to Summit and spend another $11 if it's just going to take a little squirt to fill it up.

I wonder, can I top off the trans with the leftover diff fluid? They're both 75w90, but I don't know if the MT90 has more additives or something that the regular Redline 75W90 would be incompatible with.

I ended up answering my own question by calling Redline. Apparently the 75W90 has a friction modifier that makes things slipperier (is that even a word??). If I used only a small amount it would probably be ok, but if I used too much the friction modifier would essentially make the MT90 too slippery causing synchros to not funtion properly and make it a little more difficult to shift.

I'll just pick up another quart of MT90 just to be safe. Damn.

Tony I really think you're gonna be fine with 2 quarts. I have 2 quarts in mine and mine didn't overflow. Keep in mind that you're over the spec'd capacity. I only worry about it when I'm below capacity because that would mean I wasn't level and didn't drain enough. But I can understand if you're worried enough about it to get another. It's not like Trannys are cheap to fix.

BTW - It looks like tiresmoker and Ted (a 6 owner from C6C but he just got an RX8) are both shooting for showing up at Nelsons on the 9th. There should be a pretty good turnout of Mazdas for it.

I'm not really stressing out about the trans situation. As you said, there's already 2 qts in there, so I won't be dangerously low. Next time I run to Summit I'll pick up another and top it off just to be safe.

I'm anxiously awaiting Nelson's! The more the people we've got, the better, and since John can't fit into his car with a helmet on, he'll have to be our designated photographer. A 24"x36" poster of 6 RX8s trying to cram into 'the kink' together would look nice on my living room wall....

Anything that's not bolted down basically. Floor mats, radar detectors, cds, beer bottles, etc. Oh, and you might want to take off that Hello Kitty magnet so it doesn't get lost at high speeds.

I clearcoated over it... its not going anywhere!

Well... what about having loose wires - say - in the trunk? I have my two shallow mount 10s in a box in the trunk. Obv. those would come out (not hard) but would I be able to zip tie the wires to the frame and be ok?

EDIT: and... because this is the forum, of course I'd take the fuse out so none of the wires would be live bouncing around my trunk.

Remember, we are talking about Steve's car here.....

Srsly though, any loose item. Empty out your change holder/ashtray, glovebox, center console. If it can become airborn in the event of an accident then take it off, out of your car.

Hey... the way I see it... my car lightens itself.

Sounds good... i need a helmet.

Anyone have a bonus helmet I can borrow so I don't drop 200 bucks on a helmet and then decide I would rather navigate 77N instead of a track?

My fear is that I'm going to get out there and it'll be exactly like my first hit of meth... one time, and I'll be absolutely hooked.

lol! Nice.

I have no extra helmet for you to borrow and even if I did I don't know if I'd hand it over. I wouldn't want your teeth falling out inside of it.

You thinking of coming out to autox or to put it on the track? AutoX they have loaners as long as you get there early and don't mind lice. If it's track your best bet is to find something on clearance at Summit.

Personal advice is that you don't skimp on a helmet. It protects a pretty important part of you. But if you have to then just search ebay for 'SA2000 Helmet'. You'll find tons of options but the helmet will probably be decertified after this year (tho maybe not until after next year). Pretty sure they do 5 year increments (SA2005 is the other).

Make sure you hit up Summit regardless to try on different helmets so you know your size.
