Its a TurboXS/Garageline header, which I've heard mixed reviews of, but I already have it, along with their super loud exhaust, so I might as well go the full monty and put in the header. I know that there is a good chance I will need to grind down / hammer a few things in order to get it to fit, but thats okay.

What brand do you have installed in yours?

I had it up for sale for a long time, but I only had a few people ask about it, and no one was interested. I've now said, "screw it, I want my car to be even louder", so I'm set on putting it in. If I change my mind, I'd be happy to sell it to you.

I've noticed a HUGE difference since putting in the R3 diff. It feels like the car has a lot more power than the 7% it apparently gave me. Of course, there was an equally huge decrease in fuel economy... my last fill up I averaged 13.8mpg

Wow... 13.8.. that is approaching insanity... I would love the extra torque... but man. I don't know how I feel about that. There is one for sale for $800 on the f/s forum, so you got a great deal for free...

It's pretty terrible, but I also have about the worst combination of commute and driving habits; I'm rarely in the car for more than 10 minutes at a time, I usually shift upwards of 7 grand (once it's warmed up!), and I tend to be pretty hard on the throttle until I've hit the speed limit. On my most recent long drive (went to Pittsburgh for a wedding) I managed 21-22 on the highway, doing about 80. So I'd be willing to bet that the real issue with my fuel economy is between the steering wheel and the seat.

If you're looking for a big leap in power, I would definitely recommend buying a numerically higher diff. Short of forced induction, it's the biggest power increase you're going to see.

Thanks again Nate!

do you have an EGR block off? If you don't want your headers scratched up you can wrap them in self adhesive bandages until they're in. I would imagine that putting penetrant on the fasteners would make lots of smoke but may help loosen them up for you. Theyre going to give you a nice raspy sound but don't expect a significant torque increase, as the exhaust ports are our flow bottleneck.

I read this and couldn't help but think 'RX-8 in a nutshell'

Also if you are having any issues with your air pump and want to delete it, this would be the time to do it. Just get the block off plate.

I think the biggest hit to fuel economy when I put the diff in was the fact that suddenly the car was a hoot under full throttle acceleration, so I did it constantly! I'd say at least half of my reduction in fuel efficiency was due to the addition of much hoonage and funs.

@blade: the only way to make significant power gains without forced induction is through porting, even with forced induction it's still a good idea, many more flows, powers and noises.

Back to the original topic... I have updated the attendees list and we are getting close to 15 people with significant others, so it would probably be a good idea to break a folding/camping chair if you have them. They are really nice to have for Autocross anyways and with this many people coming there may not be enough seating.

Also what kind of food do people want? Hamburgers/hotdogs? Ribs? What do you guys like?
I am not much of a beer drinker, so you guys let me know what kind you like and I'll make sure it's there.

Chris and I did the swap in like 8 hours I think, so that was basically removing and reinstalling the pumpkin twice. But ordinarily you would swap just the gearset, which is a little more involved, best to just get the whole pumpkin if you could.

As for the BBQ, I usually bring a clutch of foldey chairs to autocross anyway, I can bring some meatses I reckon. I like ribs and burgers and stuff like a red blooded 'Murican.

Capital Driving Club
8am is when you have to be there for registration/tech inspection... you might be able to get away with showing up as late as 9, but I wouldn't count on it.

Well, I still have to decide whether I'll enter or not, but being there at 8am is fine. Means my 3 hour drive should be closer to 2...

I'm just gonna say the hell with it and go all out. I'll be there. Anyone who's done autoX should text me or pm me, just want to make sure it's worth registering.

Well I can't speak for everyone coming, but from what I have seen every RX-8 driver that tries autocross comes back again and again...
So if you do decide to register be prepared to start spending your Saturdays and/or Sundays with the rest of us lol.

👍 there's no doubt in my mind I will love it. I love driving period. And anything that challenges my capabilities behind the wheel. I saw someone saying the guys on coilovers may think they're too low. Not sure why that is? I actually just put my coilovers on this past weekend. Going to get an alignment, changing my oil, checking all fluids an I'm ready to roll for the 15th.

The parking lots often aren't flat or may have pits low areas, if you hit them at high speed this can have rather negative effects if you bottom out or don't have a high enough spring rate.

I should be alright then, I've been fine tuning the suspension end of my setup all week. Got it riding close to factory, just 2 inches lower.

2 inches is a pretty good drop, you are probably going to be scraping if I remember Harry Grove correctly...

It's worth registering. Doing it once was enough to get me hooked. It was also the big impetus for me actually getting involved in the community and trying to meet people to talk cars / mod cars / drive with. I can't speak for all AutoX groups, but the CDC is a composed of a bunch of laid back, really friendly guys (and gals) that will be really welcoming and make you want to come back.

I'm pretty damn psyched that we're actually gonna have a good number of 8s out there on the 15th!
