Can I just tell them I want to be in the STU class or do I actually need to modify?

Nah, just say "hey, I'm on street tires. I can still be in STU". That should do it. Just make sure if you're in the computer that they change your class. Although, I looked at something yesterday that proves me wrong. I think BS actually is a more forgiving index. I'll have a look later and confirm it.

I think the best STU time was a low 43, and I ended up with a high 43.

Basically you take your time, multiply it by the index, and that's your overall time. For BS the index is 0.822 and for STU it's 0.820.

So assuming you got a 43...
BS would be: 43 x 0.822 = 35.346
STU would be: 43 x 0.820 = 35.26

I realize this doesn't seem like a lot, but in the last event I missed first place in class by 0.2 seconds and the difference in overall place was 3 places. So every little bit counts.

In other words, I was wrong earlier by saying BS is more forgiving. Although I know the RX-8 is killing on the national tour events in BS. When you finally get some race tires on the 8 it really shines. That's why I'm almost tempted to either strip off what I've done to the car and go stock class next year with a set of race tires OR take the next step and move to BSP and do more mods to the car and go with race tires also. The one problem with that is that if I go that far it's gonna take a LOT of modifications to the car to be competitive. That blue STi with all the graphics will be my main competition locally. And I don't know about you guys, but I don't quite have a website dedicated to my car yet.

Sounds good. I should probably be around after 7 or so. In the meantime go download filezilla or another freebie ftp program.

Just installed my short shifter last night at 11:30 when i got back from the casino. Easy install once i figured out how to get the rubber off the old shifter. Best 270 I ever spent. I have a problem though. I can hear a whining noise (prob my gears) coming from the shifter area. How do I fix this? It almost sounds like there is nothing between the tranny and me.

also, does anyone want to get together and build a new box for my car? I don't have the ideal tools for it so I was wondering if anyone else did.

I want to make a box that is removable but can still look pretty showy. I think the extra weight of two 12" subs in the back is slowing me down on the track considering those bitches weigh like 50lbs with the box. I was thinking of somethig in the way of a false front that velcroes on over the actual box to make it flush. Maybe a fiberglass facade? Modena did you say you worked with fiberglass?

I left the padding in on mine, the only time I really hear extra transmission noise is when i rest my hand on the shifter

I was thinking about hitting up home depot tonight and getting some sort of foam and isulating it to keep the heat out, reduce vibrations and possibly make it quieter. Any ideas on that?

PS I burnt the **** out of my hand on the freakin shifter installing last night. Goddam thats hot!

Be careful not to buy any material that will melt - or worse - if it gets hot. I bought a sound insulating blanket at some place in Maryland heights, I think it was called Hot Dog Street Rods or something, it was $20. I used it to do my whole trunk. Anyway, it has a foil like surface on one side, you put that face down/against the heat and it reflects it and keeps it from getting to you.

More important, did you win last night? I went to Harrahs two weeks ago, won $40 in six minutes at blackjack, and left!

I stayed home and broke even. Seems like I have the best odds when doing that.

And... if anyone's afraid of messing up their car but would love to come out and drive... I'd love to have a tire warmer go out and drive my car.

My friend, Tim, and I will be there and I'm psyched. I actullay remembered to put premium in this time and am going hunting for some octane boost after work. I can't wait to see what kind of difference the shifter makes.

You had better run in the first heat and work the course the way you normally do.

I would recommend offering to work a different job than just a course worker and let them know of your circumstances. They might nice and let you work registration or something like that. I also suggest you sign up for the first heat. I know I'll probably run in that heat also. I have to go into work tomorrow evening and will most likely need a nap beforehand. (getting old sucks)

I'll post directions up here later. Gotta go fix the garage right now. Damn door opener threw up on itself.
