Hey guys, I think I need some help. Back in December a taxi hit me in the side damaging the lefft frond door and fender. Nothing major but they have to be replaced. Since then I put the car away for the winter but spring is coming and I want to get it fixed. Aynyways Im looking for a very good body shop. I know of a few people that can do it rather cheap but the quality can sometimes be doubtful. Price isnt much of a metter. Basically I want it to look like its never been hit, even after a few years. The problem I had with those average body shops is that after about 2 years the paint would start cracking, only visible from a few feet but neverthless disturbing to me. I also want to do this with authentic mazda parts. I know that many shops can get Taiwanien (sp?) parts relatively cheaper, even more than half the price. The only practical difference between these parts is weight. Durability isnt a problem. However I just want this to be as original as it could be. So all in all does anyone know of very good honest body shops and/or places that sell original mazda parts?
Thanks all.

Original Mazda parts can be bought, but they're not cheap. Any body shop can do it. Are you not claiming anything through insurance then? If so (not that it matters) I can recommend M&V Auto in Schiller Park. They did my 7 a few years ago and did one helluva job. Ask for Vince and he'll set you right. They're definitely not the cheapest, but do incredible work.

And please...it's C-H-I-C-A-G-O.

That just annoys me...

Rail, Your becomming a regular here. Also Schiller Park is quite a ways from where you live. How did you come to know their work?

Macius8, There is a shop I can recommend also. I can't remember the name at the moment (edit: Master Craft Auto Body, 724 N Ardmore Ave Villa Park IL 60181 (630) 832-8780) but they are in Villa Park, on Ardmore Ave. just south of North Ave. I had them do work on my race car. Again they do great work and not cheap. Definitly better than I needed for that car. I will edit this post with the name when I get it.

Macius, I had body work done on my 300M at a place called White Eagle Auto Body in Naperville/Aurora. I have no idea about Mazda parts because I didn't have the 8 then, but they would have ordered whatever parts I would have paid for (I just used the replacement parts cuz the other person's insurance was paying for it). It all turned out great.

And at the time, I lived in Palatine. It was recommended by Sean from A-Spec, who had his car painted there. Beautiful job...

That couldn't have been. That thing hasn't run for a long time. And his interior is black.

Thats one problem, the taxi guy's insurance doesnt want to pay me the estimated amount for repair. Im letting my insurance deal with them, but still Im a grand behind. Basically I just want it done right.

Many thanks for the help guys. Ill check out the shops you mentioned.

Tough **** for his ins company. Who did the estimate, their company or yours? And by law, you have the right to request AND use NEW parts.

My insurance made the estimate, StateFarm, and they paid me everything but the deductible, which is unfortunately a grand. I wont get this until his inurace pays mine.

A-Spec dosn't do body work. As a matter of fact, they don't do much at all for RX8's. Their main bussness is working on FD and turbo FC RX7's. Last spring the owner told me that he was getting a RX8 for his wife and then develop a turbo kit for it. To my knowledge, nothing has come of that yet. Also, A-Spec, last year, was backlogged with bussness. Call and talk to them before you make any plans.
