Ok, I am cautiously optimistic that this is moving forward. The guy said he had the same thought about cutting off the sides, he's getting me a shipping quote. I don't really care how much it costs, I want this (but I am not telling him that!). I'm hoping for some news/a PayPal address in the morning when I wake up.

Good luck with this Chief. It'll look great on the car.

Still on track to come home 1st of May? We have to have another group shoot again some Saturday before it gets too hot out.

Rolling shots are on my bucket list this Spring/Summer.

I redid a shot in Photoshop the other night. I sort of like this one.

I absolutely want to take rolling shots and have some taken. Never done it before. I think going over the bridge from cincy to newport could be a good spot with the river and some of downtown as the background. It would have to be early morning so the sun would to the shooter's back though.

Chief, good luck with that wide body. It's a great look.

We could use Chief's Miata for the lead vehicle. Actually, a SUV with a pop up rear half window would be ideal. Not a fan of open tailgates and trying to strap in. Cops sort of frown on that.

Over the Roebling would be good.

The freelander's rear window rolls completely down.

The Roebling is cool, but only one lane each way. Still doable and a cool background.

It's mine! Well, not quite but the money has changed hands. Thanks for the positive comments, I know it helped.

Right now it's looking like I'll be home around 10 May. That is of course if they don't change our discharge port, and crewing gets its **** together and actually sends me a relief.

I don't know where he's lurking on these forums, because I know he's joined... but one of our local 8s has a rolling mount that could take some really neat shots. I'm sure he'd be down for a shoot, I know he really wants to see what it can do.

Rolling mount = low speed. I thought about building one since there's all kinds of plans out there and all you need is big sections of conduit and some Manfrotto articulated arms and a few suction cups to mount it all on. POTN and other photography-centric websites have instructions on how to build them or where to buy a complete kit. I thought about it and all you have to do is a lot of post processing in PChop to clone out the reflections and shadows of the rig.

In most cases you have the engine off and just coast at a couple MPH and use a really long shutter speed of a 1 second or more. The slower the better.

The pro rigs that typically are used on manufacturer's product shots are mounted underneath the body and are rock stable and they can do a little higher speed but nothing like 25 MPG since you just have a lot of movement and vibration. And you need a really big area since on the road you'll take out a mailbox and your camera pretty easily.

Don't know if it would help but I have a roll bar mount for my GoPro and the other assorted ones (suction cup etc) that it originally came with. At the very least I can take video (if you guys wait until I am home).

^ All of this sounds exciting, yes let's find the feller that has that setup. I know there are several people from the area that don't post on this thread. Roebling would be great if we could use the other lane.

Chief, that is great news, I'll have to swing by the house when you get back and check out the 7.

Our President is in Cartagena today. If it's anything like it was a couple weeks ago, it's gonna be hot with a shirt and tie!

The 7 is in a storage unit. No way was I going to park the Miata outside, and the wife was pretty adamant about at least one of the cars she uses the majority of the time having a spot in the garage.

Hit my favorite spots before Fuel. Kevin, I think I just missed you. Saw you on Columbia Parkway headed to Fuel.

Got the choo choo coming in on the bridge.

Well, he could take his shirt off like his Secret Service Detail did with the prostitutes.

Chief, the GoPro would come in handy. I was thinking of picking the latest GoPro, but it's either the cat back or another piece of camera gear. I think the exhaust will win out.

Kevin, we sure could use the Freeloader, er Freelander. What else we need is a few walkie talkies to communicate and line up shots. Mine are so old and they never worked well. I may pick up a couple from Amazon this week.

Forgot to mention that when I shooting down by the railroad bridge a Cincy cop drove by, did a U-Turn, cruised by twice and decided I was just some doofus photographer and harmless.

Ok, I asked about this before and got no response, but now I have a renewed sense of purpose for getting the 7 fixed up. Does anyone know of any good body shops that can do metal replacement? Experience with RX-7s would be a plus of course. It needs both inner rear wheel wells and the right rear outer fender replaced at a minimum. I'll be stripping the car down myself to bare bones so that won't be a factor, and of course with my job I could drop it off before I leave and not need it back for several months. Any recommendations?

I know of a couple of guys chief that do that kind of work, but they do it out of a house garage, work on one car at a time and are pretty slow. I can get some contact info from my buddy (it's his brother and his friend that do it) if you'd like. They usually do muscle car restores and are working on a '70 Charger at the moment, but might be able to get your car in since you're looking at leaving it with them for a few months anyway.

Thanks for the info guys. James, I'll have to give them a call when I get home. Kevin, if you could ask for me I would appreciate it. I know sometimes people who work on one type of car don't usually want to mess with something else but it's worth a shot.

He thought wrong, but it was almost donut time, so he left.

They do all the body work for Spade Kreations, so I am taking my car directly to them. $50/hour is what they charge, which is pretty much the going rate these days with custom shops. Not sure he has done a 7, but if you check out the website, they have done a lot of different custom stuff, with extensive metal work.

That's a HUGE 1/4 panel! My brother said when he replaced his, it took nearly 500 spot welds on his '70 Charger's 1/4's. Hard to do as well, because of the sail curve. Got to have a lot of cleco's handy. I'd like to see that car, as they are pretty rare.

You guys drill more than I remember, twice a month must take a lot of time away, but I appreciate the sacrifice. My dad's next-door neighbor just moved in, and still drills up in Pittsburgh (he was supposed to get out in Jan, but they lost his paperwork-imagine that).

You have a car boyfriend? Is that the guy who makes videos of Lucy doing donuts? If it is, you need to tell him to treat Lucy better, or you'll find yourself a new car boyfriend. I was thinking about getting a car girlfriend, but my wife already thinks I am cheating on her with the 8, so that would be too

I guess I didn't look disheveled enough and it was going on 9AM, so the second batch of doughnuts were probably just coming out of the deep fryer.

I figured he was going to say I was on private property or some such nonsense. Like I can hurt a broken up gravel parking lot next to a railroad bridge.

I need a new spot anyway. Getting bored with the bridge background.

I was thinking one of the various old water pumping stations, like Eden Park, might make a nice picture. Don't know though.

I spent my whole weekend cutting and grinding to get my wheels on, but it was worth it. The new aggressive stance looks sharp. Glad I have a cut-off wheel and BF air compressor at my disposal. Krylon painting the shrouds came out really well too. Sanded, and polished out my headlights and 3rd brake down to get rid of the yellowing, looks great. My tinted fog light project also came out well. All of this, just took a lot of time, especially cutting my wheel studs, and grinding and cutting the fender's more with a rotary tool. It still hits slightly the bumper tab over speed bumps at higher speed, but I don't think there is any way around that with these worn out shocks... Chief are you listening? I need a stiffer shock, and then I should be fine. The car actually feels more planted with the lower offset when I go fast through turns, which is contrary to what everyone says on here Could be my camber is slightly more negative due to the lower offset.
