I'm new to the forum and I'm stationed at Hill AFB. I just wanted to know if anyone would be interested in my navigation unit. It would be coming out of my 04 rx8 with 43000 miles. Also, when is your guys next meet? Anyone want to trade from a manual to an automatic ?

haha no, I mean when we pulled up next to you on the bike. You looked confused.

annnnyway.... went to pick up my 8 today after its heart transplant. When I left the lot though it stalled everytime i came to a stop. SO i took it back and they're giving me a rental car cause it was late in the day and they didnt have the time to fix it. Lame yes, but get this. When I asked him what I could do to prevent it from happening again he said i need to drive harder. That its better for our engines to be in higher revs and to be driven hard. Also, when I asked if I had a break in period he said no. He said drive to just drive it hard and have fun. Sounds odd to me... Although I do generally drive in high gears to save gas and my engine DID start losing compression at about 38k....soooo I dunno, maybe he's right?. I have my fun with it but I do think I tend to baby it during day-to-day driving more than most people. Except Jethro ofcourse. What do you guys think?

just don't baby it too much and see how it "feels". I don't usually shift before 3500rpm and I don't take it over 7000rpm unless its a good race lol. I personally think you need to take it up hard once a week just to "flex" the engine and let it know you still love the fact that it has a 9000rpm redline :-) but thats just me... I like the idemitsu gas premix, makes me feel like I have a seatbelt on my seals lol. And just so you know I get 19-22 miles per galon on my new 8 and thats what I got on my black one when I had it too.

I have read that the engine could actually be revved to near 13,000 RPM, but the transmission and other driveline components couldn't handle rotational speeds that high.

What's the update on the car, Darius?

My Explorer is in the shop now so I've been driving the 8 daily. Nice change of pace!

Your car should NOT be stalling out. BN 8's don't act like that, neither should a rebuild.

Periodic redlining is a tactic used to prevent carbon build-up on the rotor and trochoid housing walls, from my understanding.

Well your right - the water pump is only good for 10,000 RPM as is the alternator (sustained) (Short shots of 10,000 RPM should no hurt them)- they would go before the tranny. My red line is 10,000 RPM but I don't recommend it as it puts you in the area of failure for auxiliary equipment. Not sure about the MT tranny but my AT does complain after 8700 RPM (will not shift until I return to 8700 RPM) but does not quit. Yes do red line every day to get rid of the carbon.

haha weeeeeee! Shes doing just fine now, Ive already got 400 miles on the new engine, Its definitely got more power than it did. Seems torquier. Im tempted to drive back down to Long Beach just to see how much the see level air affects the NEW engine since it made my old one feel like I was in a porsche. But yeah I had two seperate guys at mazda tell me there is no break in period. Weeeeeird. I've been relatively nice to it though. I should probably start premixing too...sigh. Money money money money.

It's not really a noticeable thing, but a protection thing. Although the other day I had to get gas and had no premix with me, so I filled up and went home to get some, and it seriously felt like it was running a lot rougher. Might have been all in my head but I would rather pay the little bit extra and have the piece of mind.

Most likely in your head but using premix is a good thing and you should double up for the first 1000 miles after a rebuild. The Mazda guys that said no break in should be told to read their own mannual. I would assume that DD is close to stock so it will not be as important but for the first 1000 miles your supposed to stay well below redline. You only have to rev a rotary to 4 grand to rid it of carbon.
