I know they are changed now, Jeff. But when they were submitted to me, those were the current ones.
It's not a big deal, I was just showing you I followed what was given to me. I didn't mean to add to the stress of people not doing it correctly. I have to start over anyways for the new turbo, so no worries. =/

No its ok, 'No-Homo'.

Anyway, so i take it that 4.0.2 maps use less fuel then the 4.0.1 maps i was running?

v4.0.2 is usually the last of the "tune-up" calibrations.
After that, we are going for power.
It usually takes 2 or 3 more iterations to get it perfect, so you will be done by v4.0.4 or v4.0.5, depending on how responsive your car is and how good your logs are.

Sweet. Also, one more thing:

Should I send you multiples of each log, like 2 of idle, 2 WOT, 2 cruising? Would that make it easier for you or more complicated?

Only send what I ask for.
Nothing more, nothing less.
If you make the logs under the indicated conditions after following the directions, every log of idle would be identical, as would every cruise log.
The WOT logs are sometimes a bit different, but not enough to affect what I do in the calibration.

I still have 12 more calibrations on my desktop to clear tomorrow.
There are a few of you out there that need to send me stuff before I can do yours.

I'll be out of town again from Thursday until Monday (going back to DC), so if you send stuff after Wednesday, it'll be a week before I can get to it.

This is why I have EVERYONE attach their current calibration.
on the 25th dec I recieved and email/map from you with v4_0_2 and at this point you stated to start wot logging. The map recieved on the 25th (v4_0_2) fubared my ltft it went from 0 ltft to 7 ltft. On 29 dec I sent you an email with idle cruise and wot and also stated that the ltft was now off. Also got the automated recieved email on the 29th. On 1/1/09 you sent me a reply about my ltft"post#265-270".

I sent the email containing my Idle and cruise from the base map on 1/1/09 so we could start over.

On 1/16/09 I recieved a new map v4_0_1 and the ltft was much better. On 1/19/09 I sent the v4_0_1 map back for calibration got the auto recieved on 21 jan and this was where we stood until yesterday feb 16.

there is a total of 9 emails including the atuo recieved emails from 25 dec to 16 feb??

My guess is based on how MM handles his system of calibrations he didn't realize that the 4_0_1 version was newer than the 4_0_2 simply because of the naming structure. You said you "started over" which I assume means you upgraded to the new base calibration and sent in a fresh set of data logs restarting the process.

MM no doubt checked your calibrations he had stored, saw a version 4-0-1 and 4-0-2 and then simply jumped to the 4_0_3.

Here's a tip and this goes for everyone reading:

It honestly does NOT matter which calibration you're on. What does matter is whether or not the tune you have is optimal for your RX8. If your tune isn't optimal all you have to do is the following:

1. Take new data logs using the current tune
2. Send those logs AND the current calibration tune into MM

It is YOUR responsibility to ensure the proper calibration is sent in. This means that even if you got a totally screwed up calibration OR used an older calibration it won't matter. The calibration you get back will be tweaked based on the data logs you sent.

I ask everyone to try and not think about this process in complex terms as it's a very very simple process.

1. load the tune
2. Take data logs
3. Fill out the 10 question email and attach your calibration w/ data logs
4. Have patiance
5. Load the new tune and ensure it's doing the right stuff.

But Mr. Flashwing, how do I know if my tune is optimal?

Simple, check your Air/fuel in WOT in 2nd gear and 3rd gear as well as your cruise values.

NO CAT Air/fuel should be between 12.9 - 13.2

WITH CAT should be between 12.2 -12.5ish (I could be wrong about that but you get the idea).

Forced induction guys should see 11.5 - 12.0.

Cruising values should be between 14.7 - 14.9 but that varies.

If you understand the tuning process and what exactly is being done with the accessport the process MM has setup will become very clear. Don't make it complex but remember to document EVERYTHING and follow his instructions to the letter. Your experience will be more enjoyable.

I'm not trying to insult you or nitpick, but understand that you can do your 2nd gear pull...stop...turn around and then do a 3rd gear pull correct? All you need is a 1/4 mile of space where you can do a 3rd gear pull without getting in trouble.

Either way, this is the ONLY way your car can be tuned without strapping it to the dyno. These data logs are the only way the tune process can be done accuratly. I normally have to drive 35 miles to get to a place where I can run my car so I understand not being near anyplace with a nice stretch of road.

Yay, I did my gentle 5 minute drive last night with the new calibrations and thank god for throttle response. It felt like when you have a nagging headache that finally goes away. The change is dramatic, even my wife who went with me was like "wow, it feels really different".

Are you in DC for business or pleasure Jeff? If you have free time let me know it would be cool to hang out.

FLASHWING- wow dude your off in left field and will leave it at that. I could give a damn about the name of the calibration you can name it what ever you want if it works it works. I was mearly wondering why he skipped a number as the last tune I recieved did not sit well with my car but enough on that.

You better make sure you know what MM is telling ppl before you make your opinions known.
REMEMBER FOLLOW HIS DIRECTIONS TO THE LETTER! ZERO TOLERANCE

It's 11 questions not 10.

from Mr.MM himself - "13) Again, on a safe section of open, flat highway, lower your RPMs to 3000 in 2nd gear (1st gear on the 4-speed automatic).

14) Press the "OK" button again to start the data-log and accelerate at WOT to redline.

15) Release the gas pedal and allow your RPMs to drop and switch to 3rd gear (2nd gear on the 4-speed automatic).

16) When your RPMs have dropped to 3500, once again accelerate at WOT to redline or to the highest safe speed you can attain.
17) Press the "OK" button again to stop the log and return to your starting location."

That does not say run it to redline in second gear, Stop, turn around put it in 3rd gear and do a wot run again. Your method is wrong according to the email I revieved and it will result in a deleted request. Although you and I both know this will work it's still not what he is asking for is it, not by the letter that is.

I usually do the logging in evenings on a long stretch with not much traffic, and obviously check it before logging. But they'd put me in jail and throw away the key if I got clocked in WOT 3rd, so naturally it's never "safe". But it's the only way to get good logs, so do or don't. Really don't see how it's MM's responsibility :P

what you have in blue is what MM said in his email.
what is in red is what flashwing said.
MM states you must do exactly as he says or you get the
