New MazdaManiac BASE Calibrations
I finally remembered to ask this Jeff....
I have the current (well, Fall last year) custom tune for a NA, Cali.
My radiator fans run for about 5 seconds after shutting down; never more, never less.
It hasn't been extremely hot here and my coolant is rarely over 190 degf, but I had thought the tune extended the run time of the fans regardless.

Well then I have an issue since mine shut off prior to coming down to 180 degf.
Again mine run about 5 seconds after shutdown every time.
btw: I'm sure I have my latest custom tune loaded - perhaps Jeff can double check mine when he gets a rare moment?

There is no direct control over the amount of time the fans run after the car has been shutdown.
Thanks Gents. So as I now understand it, the fans turn on earlier with Jeff's tune (at a lower hot coolant temp) but aren't tune-controlled to run any longer after shutdown. I can live with that as even on a rather hot/humid day yesterday I was only about 192 degf at fan shutdown and about 15 minutes later I was around 180 degf (shaded/open garage).
It probably is a factor of the hysteresis but there is no direct table that keeps the fans on until X temperature except regarding the car when it is running. Speaking to Jeff, he stated that the fans might run longer depending on the amount of time you spend above a certain temperature.

I guess that makes sense since the PCM would have no power once you shut the car off so it can't really cut them off. There must be some other system in place that doesn't require the power load that the PCM would to handle shutting them off at a certain temp.
Either way, the system that is in place works fine for the needs of the car and there's no reason that it needs to be changed.
Historically a thermistor or bi-metallic t'stat kept the fans on after shutdown until a preset lower coolant temperature was reached. Considering the ignition is off and therefore presumably also the ECU I guess it was pretty dumb of me to think it was a potential tune-set parameter.
'course in the ol' days of fan belts if the engine wasn't running neither was the fan, but the electric run-after-shutdown fans(s) was implemented to better protect the engine and cooling system etc. from latent heat.

hello Jeff
mine was received on 5 /29/2010 ,and got a confirmation e-mail saying that my submission and all answers and data logs look correct.
i had read the AccessPORT Instructions .it mentions that ""Provided you have followed the directions correctly, you should receive an adjusted calibration within 10 business days, Monday through Friday after receiving your confirmation e-mail. "
i did not get any adjusted calibration yet.i just want to fellow up.

THANK YOU
