Thanks, Teri. I still plan on driving over to Bossier this Saturday to meet up with you and Trey. I just won't be in my 8.

Cars may crumble easily but the more impact they take, the less force you take. It's like that for a reason. You can get into a really old car that is built like a tank, get into a wreck that doesn't hurt the car too bad, but come out pretty bad yourself due to the added strain on your body.

Th $ figure doesn't mean that they sustain more damage, it just means that the parts are more expensive for our cars because they aren't "American Made". If my 8 had been totaled, I wouldn't think twice about getting another one. She did her job.... I walked away without any major injuries.

You must not have explained that you drive a more expensive car than any cavalier - a cavalier is NOT a comparable vehicle.

UPDATE: I stopped by today at lunch and she's got her fenders, hood and both doors back on. Wayne was taping everything off so they could paint this afternoon. They still have to install both airbags and the front bumper and headlights and she'll be ready to go again. I'm supposed to have her back no later than Friday. I can't wait!!!!

Okay guys, I didn't get the 8 back today. Here's the deal.... the body shop manager went to pick the 8 up from the alignment shop and on the way back to the dealership it was vibrating really bad. Once back, he put it up on a rack to see what the problem might be. Now, here's my question.... just why in hell wasn't my car put up on a rack to start with to make sure there was no damage anywhere other than what was visible from the topside?????? I asked them the first week she was in the shop if they had checked and I was told that they had checked EVERYTHING. Obviously a LIE! They've now found that she has a broken motor mount.

Can anyone tell me if this might be a serious issue once it's been replaced and if there is anything else that I need to make them check on Tuesday (the new return-to-me date) before I leave the shop & preferably while I'm standing there watching them check?

I'm just slightly PISSED at the moment.

There's actually a recall for idle vibration caused by a cracked or broken motor mount, but they still shouldnt have missed it. As soon as they fired it up they should've been able to tell.

The broken motor mount isn't a major problem.

The motor mounts are on some fairly wide brackets and I would bet it is the bracket that is broke. It was probably broke in a less than obvious area and in defense of the body shop the first priorities when they are under there is to look for more serious problems that may cause the car to be totalled. Such as damage that they would not feel could be pulled out with a frame alignment.
I am not saying that they should not have checked but that if anything is going to get past them you want it to be something like that.

Your car had a lot of damage and I would bet the bracket was broke in a less than obvious area. The mount would not cause much vibration at startup and depending on which side was broke makes a difference as well.
It would raise the most hell under load. They may have thought the vibration was something the aligment would have taken care of.

Overall I am more interested in how well the car was repaired and how it looks. The motor mount bracket is no biggie at all but how all the panels align, paint blemishes, and how it feels and drives is the bottom line.
That's my 3 cents Shari.

Great!! I'm happy for you. Hope all is good with your 8? To be honest they fixed it in record time!! I'm amazed you got it back so quick.

I would also suggest if you have a mechanic buddy. Stop by with your 8 and have him/her give it the once over. This will give you extra confidence that all is good.

Good luck!!

Danny

Shari just wanted to let everyone know that she is on her way to "SLAY THE DRAGON" & that so far the car is doing good. Except for the hood moving when she drives , I think she should slow down but hey it is an RX-8 & not a "Grandma grocery getter"....
