has anyone thrown out the idea of a meet anytime soon, I know it topped 111.8deg at my house today, (great day to have taken the shoes and sock of the 8 and repainted the calipers as preparation for rotorpro slotted brakes) but I think we are in store for some better weather in the coming weeks.

I last changed it in March, I think. I moved to Austin April 1st, by the time time I needed an oil change it was mid may and its been 100+ since then.

I'll get to it this weekend though for sure, maybe I'll finally install my grounding kit as well.

Did you hear that new law that just passed about not allowing open containers to be on the river? I guess I'll just buy a camelbak and fill it up with beer lol.

I spent the weekend in the ER with my son, he is having surgery to remove his appendix today. The ER doc was an idiot, he said it wasn't his appendix because his CT scan was clear. He said it was dehydration from his football game but I knew that was BS because he was drinking water the whole game.

I got my boss to call in some meds and he made it through the weekend and then this morning he woke up with a 101F fever so I took him to his pediatrician and it took her 5 minutes to determine it was his appendix.

Hope everthing goes OK... I almost had to go to the ER myself yesterday... We have been redecorating and I had hung some new shelves next to my desk. Well I bent down for something and came up and bam! cracked the top of my head against the corner of the shelf. Came up with birds tweeting and stars flying in a circle. I take off my Zoom-Zoom hat and check my head and come back with some blood. The wife is freaking out and we clean it up and it stops bleeding. I probably could have gotten a couple of stitches but did not feel like spending 8 hours at the ER. LOL....

Me either, his symptoms are text book appendicitis. ER docs are usually very capable and Methodist has a good rep but I guess at some point you run into the guy who graduated last in his class.

Ouch man, hitting your head is the worse. I have had stitches in my head twice from fights in school. Even the smallest cut can bleed like crazy.

Man, sorry to hear about your son...hope it all goes smoothly. it funny my 21month old daughter decided to throw a fit in her bed and her head nailed the corner of the window ledge...needless to say blood everywhere...or course then she apologizes like crazy and wants to play "no baby its bed time"...got to love kids

Bad news on my car, I have been dealing with what I thought was a misfire that progressed into very rough idle, replaced coils, plugs and wires hoping that would fix the issue. Well it didnt now the thing wont idle at all (runs great above 1500 rmps)....so I am "stuck"....Im gonna "celan" the TB, the ESS and I guess check the Cat...any other ideas. I hate to take it to the stealership for diagnosis, maybe I should bite the bullet and get a compresson test

04, 120k miles, 6speed basically stock

Yeah kids are a handful that is for sure. My son has never really been sick or hurt so this is the first major thing he has been through thankfully

Stalling can be indicative of a a loss of compression but check for vacuum leaks first. Are you getting a check engine light? Original motor?

The surgeon said once she got in there she understood why it might not have been evident in the CT scan. But his appendix is out and he is doing well so all is good.

you say check for vacuum leaks you mean just check the quality of all the hoses? no this is not the original motor but it is older than most '04s who were swapped, I think I was one for first to address the stalling issue that resulted in a motor swap....very long story.

The other day I had p0506 but that went away and CEL was clear...until about an hour ago I was on 1604 and it flashed like a misfire as I got on it coming up hill and read p0301 for misfire...duh

I am not convinced a clogged cat would cause this type of issue nor the ess being dirty. If I do indeed have loss of compression does that mean new engine (or at least a rebuild)? I am game for doing this myself just may mean I have to go buy a civic or something cheap to get me by…I need 2 cars (2 kids one in private school the other in daycare 20min away….go to love life).

BTW…how’s your new motor going?

I am reading through some posts and I am wondering if my engine core is "covered" in the 8yr 100k mile warranty. The car has 120k but the engine core doesnt

Yes the warranty ends at 100k regardless if you got a replacement or two before then.

have you done a decarb? that might bring it back to life... and the smoke cloud it creates is fun

I got rid of my 04 GT last year when it hit 115k and started acting up I knew the motor was on it's way out and it was a reman that went in before I hit 50k. I traded it for the 06 shinka I now have...

Scott, I see your comment on another thread regarding 3 (possibly 4 engines now). what dealer are you going through and what constituted a new engine? I am going to get a compression test this afternoon @ world car in new braunfels, he seemed hesitant to confirm the 8yr 100k for replaced engines...any key lingo I need to know....I would hate to deal with mazda usa again they were helpful but dealing with "middlemen" sucks but I will get my way…..mmuuuuhhaaaaaa

Well, my car has 126,000 miles on it. At 22,000 my first engine died. It had normal 3,000 mile oil changes, highway driven, and no real issues until I started getting misfires and eventually it started stalling at lights despite new coils and plugs.

My second engine was installed at 22,000 miles by North Park Mazda along with new coils, plugs, etc. Throughout it's life it had normal oil changes, no mods, a few autox events each year, and just ran well for the next 74,000 miles until it too started having problems with a loss of power and misfires. They replaced the cat and I guess it was too late because soon after it started stalling out due to a loss of compression and died at 96,000 miles.

My third engine was installed at 96,000 miles and just started having problems during the last 6 months or so with random misfires, heat soak, and overall just hard to diagnose and weird issues. Well it took some work to figure out what exactly was wrong but I finally figured out it was a blown coolant seal and coolant leaking into the rear rotor housing. I believe it was a slow death and it may have suffered damage during one of our trips to the hill country where I busted my water pump hose and overheated the car. Even though I pulled over and shut the car down immediately. I also should have had it towed rather than limping it back after replacing the belt and the coolant because come to find out I had a small crack in the radiator.

According to Rob at Pineapple Racing, it only takes a minute or two of overheating to kill the factory coolant seals because they are not that great to begin with. So my new engine has upgraded heavy duty coolant seals and some other things done to it that should make it more reliable but...........I am installing a upgraded turbocharger and Greddy kit so I will have to be very careful with this engine if I want it to last. But there are a few things we can do with Cobb tuning to help with reliability.
