^Well it was a great event. Weather was good until I left at around 2:30pm so I think everyone was able to get in their full runs. Really friendly group of people - lots of Miata, S2000's, and Nissans. Had some great ride-a-longs in a WRX and S2000. My son had a great ride in a BMW M3. No RX-8s though .

Fixed my electrical problem a few days after my last post... Figured out it was my grounds to the negative battery post. Ordered Flex Innovations grounding kits as well to help out, Idle is smoother, even for my dead engine.

Vacuumed inside and detailed the interior, always fun stuff. Used Mothers Reflections Leather Care for the seats and their Protectant for the Plastic,Vinyl,Rubber trim. Mothers Carpet Upholstery cleaner made my carpets smelling fresh and clean as well. Gonna be honest though, I did like Meguiars gold care products better though...

Planning on cleaning/detailing the outside tomorrow since I tackled the interior today (technically yesterday). Gonna do the ole 2 bucket wash&rinse method tomorrow. Not sure if im going to wax since my paint job is still fairly new but we will see... Kind of want to order some Zaino really bad but I just spent quite a bit on some Mothers 3 step wax so we will see what happens.

Daryl Drummond engine should be coming in within the next month sometime, It should be dynoed as well before its shipped so we will see what we are looking at, Cant wait to install it as this engine has been a drag the last 8-10 months, not being able to redline or really go above 4K.

Been contemplating some AST 4100 coilovers recently... They make excellent products for the price, and AST USA being located in Plano, ill have some local support to fool around with, maybe even a discount on the price. Yet my pocketbook is essentially cashed since the engine rebuild so these will probably be my next purchase.

Need to order some titanium lugs (rainbow type) for my wheels since Im going with the titanium theme now. My Greddy SE exhaust will be going on as soon as I install my engine. My blue rays lugs have faded to baby blue, and especially stand out after my repaint.

Installed some Philips Ultinon 6K HID's today... They look great, alot brighter than my old aftermarket 6K HIDs.

Seems to be a decent update to this dead thread since im especially bored at 2:15am in the morning...

We accomplished a good amount of work today. Tomorrow we should be unbolting the engine mount & trans bolts, then pulling the bad engine out.

That's good, there are always little issues. Make sure you use anti seize on the UIM bolts. Trust me, they the steel bolts and aluminum LIM like to bond to each other.

The biggest hiccup is me losing my temper over dumb little stuff. It's hard exhausting work doing this on jackstands.

No kidding~! The hardest part for me has allways been mating the engine back up. Good luck.

Its harder with a turbo strapped to the engine, NA engines are easy.

I hate that thing with a passion. Somtimes we zip tie it up out of the way and that seems to help alot with the reinstall. The last time around i just took mine off as there was not way i was going to be able to stuff it in with all the turbo equipment attached.

Fortunately there's no AC on mine so round 2 will should be easier. Plus I have to swap in the S2 trans anyway so it should be easier to get the engine in/out regardless without dealing with it in place.

It definitely gets easier with practice. Engine replacements in this car are far easier than in other cars and trucks I have done. But we got Hoss's in with the turbo and everything attached and it was no biggie. Getting it mated to the trans is weird, sometimes it pops right in and sometimes it's a bitch.

I need to install the S2 trans at some point, I have been putting it off.

For what its worth - A great service experience at Town North Mazda:

Here's the story:

I took my car in for service last month at Town North Mazda in Richardson to get the engine mounts replaced. Since my 07 (39K miles) engine warranty expires in Aug of 2015, I went ahead and had them do a compression test just to see how things were going. Since I bought the 8 in 2012, I've had zero issues with the car, and done most of the normal maintenance items myself and the engine has always been very strong, no idle issues, no misfires, no cels etc. Well the compression test comes back low:

compression at 250 rpm according to the tech.

rotor 1: 6.8, 7.3, 7.0
rotor 2: 6.7, 6.4, 6.3

Well I'm basically surprised since I didn't have any indication things were starting to fail. So the tech called it in to Mazda and got the authorization for warranty replacement. I was a little concerned after reading about so many problems with remans and dealers dragging their feet on getting the work done, but glad I found out with the warranty in place. So long story short, that was on a Friday, they got the reman in the following Tues, and I had my car back on Friday - exactly 1 week without the car. So I paid $400 for the 2 engine mounts, and no charge for labor since they were already doing the engine. Additional items covered under warranty:

1. Engine gasket set
2. Oil and Filter
3. Coolant flush
4. Spark plugs

They reused my coils and ignition wires since they have less than 15000 miles on them. I've put 250 miles on the car in the last week, and other than absolutely no more engine vibration, it doesn't feel much different - I mean it runs great, super smooth, perfect idle so I'm very pleased with how painless the whole process was. ALso, the warranty work charge back to Mazda went for a cool $4000. I asked for a compression test on the new engine to be covered as part of the warranty but they wouldn't cover it, so I'll have to get one has a baseline on this engine in a month or so, and check it sometime next year before the warranty is up. Here's hoping I get at least 40k miles on this one.

Those compression numbers are worthless without knowing what RPM the engine was at. But if you are getting a free engine thats cool.
