totally bummed
I have now replaced the engine (reman), radiator, oil metering pump, and starter in my 2004 rx-8 only to have Hollingsworth(less) Mazda tell me that the car was ready last Friday...not! I went to pick it up, and my fog light connector was dragging the ground, the car rattled when I started and whined when I drove it... I plugged the connector in and discovered the fog lights were not working
I brought it back Monday at 5:20 pm to an empty service desk (they close at 6), and had to have the Ford side take in my RX-8. They finally called me this morning to tell me that I need to replace the bumper to get the fog lights to work, the starter (replaced earlier this year by Diamond Mazda, who also damaged the bumper), the torque converter, and the transmission... what?! suffice it to say I am done with both of the dealerships in Baton Rouge...
Does anyone have any knowledge of a reputable mechanic who is familiar with rotary's in Baton Rouge? I would like to confirm that my transmission and torque converter need to be replaced. If they do, I will almost certainly not want to have it done at either dealership, if at all...
I am considering selling the car when I get it drivable anyway. Does anyone know of a buyer that would give me a decent price on all the work I have in this thing so far? If so feel free to have them contact me. Its in physically good condition with 115K on the body. Titanium gray, Black/Red leather interior... pictures attached. Also, any thoughts on what realistic prices are would be welcome, both for the repairs and the car before/after repairs are made. I have around 6K in it now...

I doubt you transmission is bad. And why would you need to replace the bumper to get the fog lights to work?
You should be able to bring the car to any decent transmission shop to check it out. There is nothing special about the transmission.
Post a video of you starting the car cold and hot. It will be obvious if you need a new starter or not. And if you do, you can change it yourself very easily.
Even with a flawless body if the repairs you say you need are real the car won't be worth 6k. And auto versions of this car have lower value and are harder to sell.
When repairs are beyond my skill or time I bring my car to Dick Barker Mazda in Houma. I been going to that dealership to service my rx7s and now rx8 for over 10 years. Never had a bad experience yet, a guy named Travis always works on my car there.
